I just bought a new Dell W2600. I have it connected via comp video to a sony dvpns775v dvd player. When I play full screen movies, the movies don't fill the whole screen. I have tried every possible setting, different dvds, and even a different dvd player. Its weird, when the dvd is playing and is on the menu screen, it fills the whole tv. However, once I start playing the movie, I get the bars on the top and bottom. Yes, I double checked to ensure I was playing widescreen dvds, checked everything I possibly could. Can anybody help me out?

Many widescreen movies are not 16:9 so you will commonly see the black bars. Check the DVD for the exact aspect ratio. Instead of the optimal 16:9 (or 1.77:1), you are probably watching a 2.35:1 or 2.20:1 movie.

You are watching the movie as it was filmed, other words you are suppost to see the black bars. If you dont then use the zoom feature, does Gateway have the zoom??....not sure, but dont expect alot out of Gateway LCD's or Plasmas.....there is a reason they are one of the cheapest on the market.

I have been annoyed by this SAME problem since gettingmy DELL W2600 LCD TV - but I have done nothiug about it...until now. Went searching online to see if others share this gripe with me about watching widescreen movies in the Dell W2600. Well, I TOO have checked out every single possible conceivable alternative to this, and I KNOW I am doing everything right here. It is annoying. The only alternative is to watch the movies in Zoom mode (but then, why bother buying a WS LCD TV?). I am VERY HAPPY with regular TV, watching it in 720p and fullscreen. Arnold -- THANK YOU for posting your original e-mail about this; I now know I am not crazy. Scott
