Will using an Svideo cable when dubbing old VHS tapes to DVD have much better quality than using plain rca cables? My old VHS tapes from the 80s were recorded using rca cables or coax. Could I just stick with using plain rca cables for dubbing the old tapes? Would the svideo improve the video even though they were recorded using the old style RCA jacks?

Every time you pipe the signal you lose some fidelity. So in any situation it's better to use the s-video if available -- keeping the chroma and luminance separate equals less loss of fidelity.
