New member Username: Gak22Post Number: 19 Registered: 01-2004 | Have had my KF60WE610 for about a week now and have tried different settings for PQ. Has anyone found any changes that's given them the BEST PQ??? Her are somethings that i have tried and my questions: - Display; VIVID, brightness at 100%, Contrast at 80%, hue 1 click off center to right, sharpness at zero. - TruSurround - Wide modes; ??? what is the best??? normal is regular 4:3-black bars-I didn't spend $4K for a 51" square set; zoom doesn't fit on the screen-seems as if there's overflow off the screen; full and wide zoom almost look alike but they seem to elongate/stretch the picture to fit the screen; doesn't look natural. right now i'm experimenting with wide zoom and trying to get used to the PQ - What is the second Zoom display setting for??? - I have a Sony DVP-NC665P DVD play and Comcast Cable HD/Digital box; are there any settings that I have to change under DRC/Cinemotion to get the best viewing??? And the cable guy told me to try setting the cagle box at 480i for the older analog station (2-76) and use the AUX4 input. Then go to my video 5 input for digital/HD stations and set the box at 1080i (under menu) for those channels; what a pain in the butt-just to watch TV - but it does give a better PQ in the lower channels. Anybody have any other insights or settings that work on these Grand Wega's -- the set is great!!! |
Anonymous | If you use a DVD or HD/Digital Box and plugged into Video 5-7, the Advanced Video Mode is not available, because I understand DRC is only used for 480i type signals. The DRC will make analog stations look better. I use DRC=HD & Palette =2. I found "STANDARD" was better than "VIVID", but both have contrast, brightness & sharpness set too high. Hue & Color seemed OK from factory. Some folks like Pro, but I don't. Personally I like "FULL", but "Zoom" will stretch 4:3 hort & ver equally, Zoom Wide will enlarge 4:3 to fill 16:9 screen keeping the orginal image as much as possible. I find no difference in Wide Zoom & Full, except when watching CNN's news ticklers (Full does it better) Get your hands on a copy of DVD Essentials. It has some good test signals to picture setting to a more pleasing level. Bronze Member Username: Gak22Post Number: 20 Registered: 01-2004 | So i have to use s-video connections for video 1-4 for my lower channels and then use video 5 with my composite connection for the digital and HD channels? then set the DRC to HD and palette to 2??? correct? |
Anonymous | You can use video 1-4 for lower channels or those that are analog. I find analog channels don't look as good going through my HD Tuner & using component cables. Now my upper channels or digital ones, look just fine being sent through component or Video 5 or 6. That'll mean you'll have to switch video inputs, not really a big deal for me, but some folks sqwalk at this. Again I used standard mode, mild mode off, NR=Low, Temp=Neutral, DRC=High Density, Custom Palette= 2 or Reality=50 & Clarity=1 & BN = OFF. Contrast is about 60%, Brightness is about 75%, Color at factory set, Hue @ center & Sharpness is about 25%. Your milage may vary... Honestly, I find Analog channels can look shabby at times, and acceptable at others. I guess I'm getting use to HD, DVD & DTV and old analog will never be the same. |
RobW Unregistered guest | just FYI, I find analog shows over the air thru my digital reciever look superior and have a wider picture than the same channel on cable. Analog picture degradation over miles of wire? |
Anonymous | One thing I found was to get rid of the Red-Push on my GWIII. I did it by changing Axis from 3 to 0 within my SM. Oh, sweet! |
