Anyone had any trouble with the Kenwood DV5900M reading disc? I got a refurb from Vanns and it worked fine for about 7 disc and now it won't read any disc. Not even the the original 7 that it first read. I've got it hooked to an Entre' but disconnecting doesn't help. Tried blowing off the lens, resetting the microprocessor, unplugging it, etc. but nothing works. The message onscreen is "This type of disc cannot be played please change disc". All 126 disc I have in it give the same message. Thanks,
I have a Kenwood DV-5900M 403 disc dvd changer also.
I get the same message. It's 2 years old. A kenwood repair place wanted $400 to fix it.
I took the cover off and it looks like the problem is the disc isn't spinning. Nudged it and now it has worked for a day or two.

i have a kenwood 403 disc changer too. had it for about two years now. i notice many problems with brand new discs straight out of the local store, or bought online. about half don't work. however if i back them up my backups work perfectly, load plenty fast, and don't make any noise while spinning in the player like commercial discs do. i think 80-90% of the problems i've been looking at on these forums(disc read errors) are due to extremely cheap dvds being used. i've seen crooked stickers, burred center holes, and they are just extremely light when compared to my self made versions. i think this gives any player that plasy the disc vertically(i assume these things play them vertically) a problem.

I have the kenwood 403. I opened it up and the disk that players horitonzally is not spinning. This is stopping any disks from playing. I will be sending it back for repair for a second time. Definately a lemon product.
That's exactly what I found with my player. I opened up the DV5900M and the horizontal disc in the play area was not spinning. I nudged it a few times to get it going. It has been working for about 50 disc plays ever since. Appears fixed.

I just received one of these and first off, there is something slightly messed up on the carousel as the discs seem to get "bumped" right before the mechanism that moves it into the player. When I had the thing fully loaded, it practically damaged a few of my discs. It actually knocked a few of them out of their slots. Once I figured out what was going on, I removed about 2/3 of the discs and put them in about every 5 slots. Finally got it to actually play a disc or two (after it said that it couldnt read any of them). Watched 3 movies. Now, every disc it plays claims it can't be played. *sigh*. I live in LA and will be taking it in for service as soon as I deal with the problem of Kenwood claiming my seller was not authorized (secondact.biz). I'll have more to post when it gets resolved and I really get to playing with it. I had it hooked up to my entre it read every disc except for a few. I do like it, but I'm kinda dreading now not going with the Escient + Sony changer - at least those two companies are still supporting and building their products while it looks like Kenwood is getting out of the home entertainment business. That combo would have only been about $300 more.
