I have hooked up my JVC DVD player to my Pioneer 50" Plasma using component video and the picture is all blue. I have switched the cables to the wrong ports to see if that helps with no luck. I haven't a clue as to what could be wrong. Using a regular video (yellow cable) input works fine.

What the heck could be the problem?

I am having the same exact problem with my JVC dvd player (which is about 3 years old). I just got a brand new 60" Hitatchi 60VX915 - which is AMAZING, so it sucks not being able to get the component to work. I also switched all the cables and when using the reg. yellow video cable, the picture is fine. Have you figured out what is wrong yet? I thought there might be a setting on the dvd player itself to change to component, but didn't see anything. This is ridiculous! :-) I might try using a different dvd player from one of my other rooms - maybe that will work. If anyone knows of a solution, please let us know! Thanks.

Hey, guess what. I found the instruction manual for my DVD player and the factory preset is S-VIDEO. In order to enable the component ports, you have to hold down the stop button until it says component. This is the way to do it for my JVC, but maybe if you look at your manual, it will tell you how to make the component active. Hope this helps. Will try it when I get home from work. :-)

Any update on this situation. I have a Samsung HLN-4365w and anything I connect to the component connections come in with a blue tint/hue. I've tried DVD players, ReplayTVs and now my new HDTV Tuner/DVR...all have the same problem.

I dont understand it.

Lydia has it right. I had the same problem with a Phillips DVP 642. Using the DVD player's system menu (not the menu for an actual DVD) allowed me to change the Video Setup from S Video to Composite and, presto, great picture! :-)

Well done Lydia. Holding down the stop button of my JVC fixed the problem with the component output.

I hope someone reads this. I'm having this exact same problem. I also have a JVC (XV-S300) DVD player and the picture is all blue. The manual talks about holding down the stop button but nothing happens when i do. I held it pressed probably for a whole minute.

Any ideas??

In case this can help someone else, I solved my problem. When I got the blue picture, my projector was listening to the component input but my DVD player was set to output S-Video. When I switched it to RGB (with a button on it's back while in stop mode, didn't work while a movie was playing), the picture went out. I then started fiddling with my projector and saw that I could set it to either RGB or Component. I switched it to RGB and voila! The picture appeared. I must admit though that I was expecting to see more difference between RGB and the composite signal. So either my DVD player is very good at composite or very bad at component/RGB. But I'm really relieved that this finally works!

gisli: the way to toggle between the 2 settings of s-video vs component is to hold the stop button on the dvd player itself, not the remote.

Gisli,
Thanks for your post. I had the same problem and stumbled upon your post tonight. I knew about the little switch, but I had the dvd in "play" mode when I was switching it and nothing was happening.
