PS2 video/audio will not play, suggestions please?

We have a Panasonic Omnivision PV-M2079 with the video in/audio in on the front. Normally this is how one would hook a game system up, but for some reason we're getting neither video nor audio, even on the line/aux station. Is it just not possible with a tv/vcr combo? Are those hookups only for recording with another vcr? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
