I purchased a Sony KV-32HV600 used a few months ago and was very excited about finally having a decent display. I also purchased the Denon 1910 for what I thought would be an awesome combo...
However, it seems that no matter what configuration I try (component cables, DVI, progressive), I get the best picture from running the DVD player in "non-progressive" mode and the Sony in 16:9 "enhanced" mode.
Should this be correct, or is there possibly something wrong with the display? When I turn Progressive "ON," I get a ton of "boxiness" in the picture, especially in dark and black areas. Overall, things look "fuzzy" compared to normal mode. I hooked up another Sony DVD player we have and tried it as well, with pretty much the same result. DVI made no difference, either.
I recently bought a Marantz dv6400 player, and the guy at Stereo Exchange recommended I set mine on regular interlaced instead of progressive. I have a Philips 30" HDTV capable TV, and the TV is set to progressive. I don't get ANY picture when I put the DVD player on progressive. I don't know the reason for this, but I wanted you to know that your situation is pretty normal.
