Just so you know, I am a cable provider hater but I use them for broadband and refuse to allow a STB in the house...that's why I'm looking into DLP's with internal tuners. I read on a post that someone was getting HDTV on a few stations with just the cable connected and no cablecard installed. What's the deal here and are the cable companies pushing something that you don't need?
I have Time Warner and in my area there are 3 HD channels available through the internal tuner without a cable card; CBS, ABC and FOX. With DT transmissions there are up to 4 sub channels available. Channel 11 is CBS (SD) and Channel 11-1 is CBS (HD) channel; Channel 13 is ABC (SD) and Channel 13-1 is ABC (HD); etc. Currently PBS is the only station in my area to use all 4 sub channels, but none of them are HD.
