Received about a week ago the new Sony HDMI output DVD player ($299). Once you change the default settings to the higher end stuff to match your gear (24 bit, etc), the upgrade in quality of sound and also video is worth the extra couple hundred bucks.

I have a Philips DVD player DVDQ50AT with Faroudja hooked up to a Philips 55 inch 55PL9773 LCoS TV. When playing disks with darker or shadowy scenes there is VERY poor black level performance. Almost no contrast between shades of black or other dark colors. It's not the TV settings (already played with that). Any ideas??
