Bronze Member Username: CubsfanNaperville, IL Usa Post Number: 12 Registered: Aug-04 | My new 52" Mits 52525 was delivered a week ago and I am very happy with my choice. I was tired of waiting for the 5674 and bought Mits at Tweeter. My opinion is the Mits has the best PQ of all the sets out now, I have not seen the Toshiba, and I like all the extra features it comes with. I will admit that if it is very sunny I have some glare from the stupid front screen, but I can take it off if it starts to bug me. When the set was first delivered it had two small black triangles on the top of the set. Tweeter service came out and showed me the mirror bracket had moved during transit. They were willing to repair or replace the unit, I went with replace and the new, new set will be delivered next Saturday. Having watched several HD movies and Cub games all I can say is wow. If anyone would like more info on this set or has any questions please let me know I will answer them the best I can. I have heard that a replacement front screen, less glare, will be out in October. If anyone has anymore info on this please post it. Thank in advance, J.D. |
Nel Venki Unregistered guest | Hi Jamie, You made a good decision going with the Mits...I just ordered my 62725 yesterday at Tweeter and they have said that the sets are expected to be in their warehouse on Sept 12th....after that they would contact me to schedule a delivery date...can't just wait. I could only see the 525 series at their store but I wanted the anti-glare screen since my FR is well lighted. The pic looks very crisp in the Mits compared to others but I thought the Samsung's were more brighter. What is your opinion on this? Also I heard that Mits had a recall on these TV's some months ago due to some software glitch...I think that is solved now. Enjoy your new Mits. Btw, would you be willing to share the price you paid for the set? I paid $4699 for the 62". |

He says I'll have to wait until the end of September before they begin receiving the 62725. That's the one I'm looking to buy. Let me know if you should have any negative comments about the set, too. Thanks, bigdave |

I really need to establish the width. I may not have room for the 62". I cannot find those dimensions anywhere. |
Paul B. Unregistered guest | I have just purchased the Mitsubishi WD 62525. It is set up in a room without a lot of windows and the picture quality is great even with the glare screen left in place. Straight out of the box....before using VE or Avia to set it up, the picture is awesome and the colors are very nearly perfect. The picture is as good as the one on my ISF calibrated Hithachi 57XWX20B (57" CRT). Even with analog cable signals, there is not a lot of video noise. With digital and HD cable signals the picture is perfect. The blacks are surprisingly good which makes DVDs and HD source material look 3D as they should. I initially used a DVD player with progressive scan and component output. The DVDs look great but you can see some video noise with older source material. With digitally recorded DVDs, (Attack of the Clones) it is perfect...no video noise at all. With the Samsung HD-931 using the DVI output (converted to HDMI), I have achieved Nirvana! The remote is OK and the onscreen menus are easy to negotiate. I have not even played with the six separate color controls yet but it looks pretty close to correct out of the box. No sync problems or need to reset yet. I highly recommend this set. |

They go great with look of the house. I'm leaning a bit more towards the Omnimount because it is a bit more angular/triangular for lack of a better word, and may work a bit better in a corner. Can anyone with either the 62525 or 62725 post the top view dimensions of the set? I have the HXWXD dimensions from the Mitsu PDF, but can't find the footprint dimensions. bitetyson Unregistered guest | Man, I really hope I didn't get ripped off. I paid $4500 for mine and it should be arriving in a couple of weeks. *sigh* I freakin' hate being ripped off due to my own ignorance. I checked online for weeks before purchasing with a local high end audio/video store. If people are really getting this tv for $3500 then I got totally ripped off. I thought I covered all my ends and did my research. The lowest I saw it online for was like $4200 which, after shipping, came out to about what I would pay locally. As for the stand, I searched long and hard and got a nice video credenza from http://www.diamondcase.com/TT/TT_HTML_Files/TT400.HTML I would have gone with the Evolution series piece of furniture but I didn't have 87" wall space to support such a wide piece. VERY nice stand though: http://www.diamondcase.com/Evolution/Evolution_HTML_Files/E87.HTML |

I did talk to a guy at Ultimate Electronics, and he said the suggested price of the set would be about $4,500. Lots of bucks but it sounds like it is the best one out there. If anyone has heard when it will be in the stores, let us know. Please keep us all appraised of the price, too. Thanks, bidave . . . north texas P.S. Also - - - I took a look at the Evolution credenza. Really nice. How much did it set you back? |
bitetyson Unregistered guest | Hey bigdave, I live in Texas also (San Antonio to be exact). The 62725 should be arriving in a couple weeks, or so I have been told. Mitsubishi was offering 2 years no interest/no payments during August until September 7th. I bought my 62725 during that time to take advantage of the "free" money, but was told the TV would arrive in late september. As for the stand, I spoke with the owner of Diamond Case Design, based out of California, and the Evolution 87 piece was $2,999. I ended up going with the TT-400 as it was only $1,999 (I use the term "only" loosely) but also it's height was less than the Evolution series. With DLP tv's it is crucial that the *vertical* placement of the TV be at eyelevel. I have read that vertical placement is to DLPs as horizontal viewing is to traditional CRT rear projectors. |
Unregistered guest | $10 PAYPAL FOR A COPY OF YOUR Mitsubishi WD 62725 RECEIPT!!! Hi, After speaking to the Home Theater Store in Houston, Texas I was able to get a price quote of $4,000. I did mention the forum prices of roughly $3,600, and the sales man said that he would be willing to drop the price down to $3,800 if I could show him any receipt from a bigger retailer (Ultimate Electronics, Tweeters, etc.) that was $3,800 or less. I will pay $10 via paypal to the first person that e-mails me a copy of their receipt showing they paid < $3,800. Please e-mail me at andycwang@sbcglobal.net if you have a receipt and are interested. BiteTyson Unregistered guest | One thing I have noticed price-wise is that people get confused as to which TV is being referred to. The $3,500 price tag is consistent with the WD-52725 but not the WD-62725. I'd be very suprised if people were able to haggle a 62725 down below $4,000. Then again, what do I know, I agreed to pay $4500 for mine. *cry* |

FL Unregistered guest | I ordered my 62725 from Ken Crane's over the Labor Day weekend during "no tax" weekend. $4699 out the door including delivery. A few days later I went to GG's and told them the price I got. They came up with $4391.03 including CA. tax and delivery. Pretty good I thought. I cancelled KC and ordered from GG's. (Their ad in Sunday's paper the following week showed $4699 plus tax). I prefer to buy locally for such a large set just in case. 30 day money back and they pay for return shipping! Anyone know any other large chains that'll beat this? Also still looking for a non-Mitsu stand. Narrowed down to the hi-tech looking, Bell'o AVS 2601 or Bush VS74377 or Omnimount Cosmic VT2. The last two have an angular shape that might be better in corners. Anybody got any comments/advice on these? Big price differences. |
FL Unregistered guest | Last night I walked into Audio Video Center in Santa Monica, CA. I told them the price I got from GG's (see above post). They offered the 62725 for $3997.00 plus tax and free delivery. That makes it $4326.75 However, I was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED with the "anti-glare" screen. Only slightly better than the 525 series. Not as good as the Samsungs. See the other posts regarding "52725 replacement screen". |
ToddPHX Unregistered guest | I ended up getting the 62725 at Ultimate Electronics for $4229.95 + Tax a few weeks ago, and took advantage of Mits offer at the time of no payments/interest for 2 years. I like buying locally, as I'm sure I'll be back at the store with questions. It's supposed to be in this week, will see, it's been delayed a couple times. I guess Mits had an issue with the mirrors and wanted to do a complete QA check of all units before releasing them. As for a cabinet to put in on, been looking for weeks ... not too much out there yet. I'm not much into the glass and metal tables you see in the A/V stores, would rather have a piece of furniture. I might end up getting an entertainment unit I found at Ethan Allen for only $899 ... go to http://www.ethanallen.com/ea/com.ethanallen.ecom.FrameDirectorServlet?top=1&body =1 and search for Product #289842 ... real nice for the money, solid wood, nice finish and color. I saw the smaller one in person and liked it, only problem is it take on ave. 8 weeks to get it. I might get it, as I'm tied of looking ... if I find something nicer eventually, then I only have $899 wrapped up in this one. |
New member Username: AllenePost Number: 1 Registered: Sep-04 | I say if you are ready to purchase a DLP set, JUST DO IT. I have seen complaints from Captian Kirk stands to glare, to resolution, to picture, to waiting for 1080p(has anyone seen 1080p?). These DLP sets are good enough to be purchased today. Go into the store. Go many times. Look at the picture. Tell the salesman to get lost and play around with the features. Decide for yourself. I purchased the Mits 52725 from Ultimate Electronics, Plano TX for $3999.99. Plus, $220 of free cables or power conditioner. I was going to buy the cables anyway, so you could say I got the TV for $3779.95 (At least, that is what the receipt shows). I also took advantage of the Mits offer of no payments or interest until 2006. Free delivery as a bonus. This set was well worth the money. It has a single-sided coating of anti-glare. In case you were wonder...YES, I do have some glare. I placed the TV in my bright family room next to 9 foot tall windows. So far, no one has comlained of glare. Hint-Hint, don't say anything about glare and no one will notice. They will be too busy wooing over the picture. Even if I went for the Sammy, I think there will be an element of glare. The reason for purchasing the Mits was the HD2+ chip, table-top design and integrated Netcommand. Netcommand allows you to control all of your companents through IR emmitters supplied by the set. Now, I don't have to purchase one of those fancy remote controls. At least, not right now. If you wait for the 52825, you get the double sided coating of anti-glare + DVR and a cool high-gloss paint job (wax not included). Hey ToddPHX, great cabinet. I was looking for something like this. Thanks for the tip. |
Audiophile88 Unregistered guest | Hi AllenE, are you sure about the Mits 52725's HD2+ chip. I called Mits customer service today asking the same question. They would not classify the chip as HD3 or HD2+ but only as 0.85 which all of their DLPs will have. My local Ultimate ele salesman said he has a brochure from Mits stating that only the 52825 will get the HD2+ and the rest the HD3. |
Unregistered guest | The HD-3 chip is 0.55" while the HD-2 and HD-2+ are are 0.8". Contrast Ratio increases from 1000:1 with the HD-2 up to 2500:1 for the HD-2+. Has anyone seen a quoted contrast ratio for the 525 or 725 series? |
New member Username: AllenePost Number: 4 Registered: Sep-04 | Audiophile88, your right. With conviction, I am not sure about the HD2+ chip. It was just my assumption. I will keep the set whatever the chip is. I scanned through the owners manual and Mitsubishi does not specify HD3, HD2 or HD2+. However the manual does specify a DLP chip from TI, a 0.85" chip, 720x1280 pixels. The basis behind the assumptions about HD2+ can only be answered by Mitsubishi. I will try to explain my observations and reasoning for my assumption; a subjective interpretation of what I see. I know for sure the WD-52725 is not using HD3. The WD-52725 pixels are oriented horizontal and vertical to the viewing pane rather than at 45 degree angles like the HD3 Samsung implementation. It cannot be assumed the HD3 orientation should be 45 degrees but I have only one vendor example to go by. Another fact. The die size is not 0.55". Second observation is close examination of the pixel spacing. It is very hard to make out the "screen door" or pixel spacing on the WD-52725. The older Samsung HD2 sets had a definate screen door or wider pixel spacing. Thirdly and observation of contrast. A side by side comparison with the HD2+ Samsung and the Mitsubishi showed very similar contrast. Conclusion, I am with observational confidence the DLP chip within the WD-52725 is HD2+, but you never know. Mitsubishi may have a Proprietary version of the DLP chip to compete with the other vendors. Maybe this is why Mitsubishi cannot specify what version DLP they are using. Maybe, Mitsubishi has contractual restrictions to mention the chip version. Who knows. Finally, there is a lack of concrete evidence of the Texas Instruments marketing name for the DLP chips. The White papers often refer to die size and resolution. When I searched the DLP and TI web sites, I never found any reference to HD2 , HD2+, or HD3. Or rather, it is hard to find. Are these self named chips just like fourth Led Zeppelin album? Or, when Prince (the R&B singer) renamed himself something we cannot read? Today, we still call him Prince and we call it Led Zeppelin 4. In the end, it is all subjective. Even when you listen to both artist play backwards on LP. So why dwell on the techincal details? It is probably in our videophile blood. My post is to lighten the same ole mumble-and-jumble. Go an see for yourself. Play with the set and see if the features are something you are interested in. Compare a few sets. Make the saleman bend over backwards for you. Have him move the set to the front of the bright store windows with a 1080i feed. Then decide which is best. You will never be as happy as when the set is finally home. Whatever vendor or model you choose. |
Audiophile88 Unregistered guest | You're right AllenE. Know matter what the chip is inside, my 62725 is on order along with the Directv Tivo HD. written in stone Unregistered guest | The mitsubishi has an hd2+ chip. The dlp is not different from any samsung using a hd2+ chip but the chip itself is only part of the picture. New member Username: ZipzapzuRocklin, Ca USA Post Number: 1 Registered: Oct-04 | Going to pick up my 62725 tomorrow. I can't wait. I was considering the 62525 but when I saw the two side by side I found a distinct difference in the glare. Someone on one of these forums said that there was only a 20% difference in glare. I beg to differ. I can't give an accurate percentage but it's definately worth the price difference. Plus the black front looks cooler I think. I currently own a gold series 55411 mitsubishi with the diamond shield. It has quite a bit of glare when the blinds are open but it's definately tolerable. I would definately go with the Mitsu. All of the people I have talked and some of those have been former big screen repair guys, state that out of all the brands, mitsu is the MOST reliable. Plus, Sony's is always changing it's models. It's annoying....I've been saving Star Wars on DVD to watch it on this tv....I'm just really glad Mitsu came out with this DLP TV. I was a little leary of getting a Samsung. Going to try and hook up OTA HD sometime this week....we'll see how it goes..Guys at radioshack are pretty knowledgeable about it all. By the way, I got it at Magnolia HIFI for 4199 and with a BDI 9429SIL stand for 630. 24 mos no interest financing!!!woo hoo!! |
AJS Unregistered guest | I just got the Mitsu 52725. There is some glare, but I can live with that. But I have two other issues that I wonder if anyone else has: (1) The picture is generally quite dark on all channels. Is that due to the anti-glare shield? For just about everything else I watch (other than "bright" shows like football games played in the sunlight or the Simpsons), it is a challenge to see the images through the darkness. Has anyone else had this problem? Increasing the brightness, contrast, and/or temperature helps a bit, but I think it takes away from the blacks and how the picture is "supposed" to look. (2) The HDTV picture is magnificent. I have DirectTV. For the most part, the non-HDTV channels are decent, but the picture seems almost unacceptably blurry and out-of-focus for many things (such as non-HDTV football games and text on the screen, like the news line that runs at the bottom on many news shows a la CNN). Is this a DLP issue, a satellite issue, or an issue with my particular set. I have it connected to a DirecTV Tivo DVR with the HDMI connection using the cable that came with the DirecTV Tivo DVR. I'd appreciate anyone have any input or suggestions regarding these topics. Thanks. |
Audiophile88 Unregistered guest | AJS, I will be getting my 62725 this week and Directv Tivo HD next week. Are you having any problems with HDMI video/audio from the Tivo to the Mitsu? I have checked out the Tivo forum and people have been returning the Tivo HD because the HDMI has video but no audio. |
AJS Unregistered guest | I don't know if any of my picture quality problems (darkness and blurry, out-of-focus images on many non-HDTV stations) are a result of the HDMI video/audio connection from the Tivo to the Mitsu. Both video and audio is working for me using the HDMI cable that came with the Hughes TIVO HD DVR. It is the quality of the video that is my concern. Not sure if it's a common problem with DLPs on standard TV or not. Wonder if the problem can be solved, or whether a better HDMI cable, component connection, or a more "clean" power source would help. |
Audiophile88 Unregistered guest | AJS Check out the Tivo Community Forum. Some of them said the component video was less dark. |
ABD Unregistered guest | I just got the 62725, love the picture, just one question. Whenever I turn it off (simple power off, not unplugging or reseting), the timer/power light starts blinking for about a minute and the TV can't be turned back on until the light stops blinking. I was wondering if this is normal function on all these 62725's, or something I should get checked out. |
New member Username: BigdavePost Number: 5 Registered: Aug-04 | ABD, I'm wondering if that might have to do with the cooling down of the bulb. Out where I live, I lose electrical power a number of times each year. I've been told it would be best to buy a backup battery supply to run the fan long enough for the proper cool down of the bulb so the its life isn't shortened. What do you think? Could it have something to do with that? Has anybody else been told this? |
ABD Unregistered guest | bigdave, Thanks for the advice, I just talked to the service guy where I bought it and he said it's normal operation for this TV and that it is just the fan cooling the bulb. Thanks for the tip on the battery supply, I've heard that before and now I'm sold. It's quite an investment and worth the price of a UPS to protect it. |
NJMitsuDealer Unregistered guest | ABD, The light should only blink if you lose power, it's the intergrated tuner seeing what source is connected to it. DO NOT try to power-up while it's flashing! |

New member Username: Mechanical_danOviedo, Florida Usa Post Number: 1 Registered: Oct-04 | I purchased my WD62725 and a Hughes HR10-250 recorder/with tivo from a company of Tweeter, Sound Advice. The salesman started with the price for the WD62725 of 4750, then lowered it to a sale price of 4450. I got pissed and left the store and called the store to complain. Got another salesman, a much cooler one and he offered me the WD62725 for 3999.50. He also offered the Hughes HR10-250 for 860, a discount of 140. The matching stand was 250. Also got the system for 15 months same as cash, no payments, no down payment. I like using someone else's money for as long as I can. I can't pick up the WD62725 until around Sept. 23. No big deal, I have to rearrange my living room anyway. Whoever you buy from, fight and threaten to leave and you will probably get a decent price. |
New member Username: Mechanical_danOviedo, Florida Usa Post Number: 2 Registered: Oct-04 | One should always use a back-up power supply with your home entertainment system. Especially if you use a Tivo recorder. I use an APC XS 1500, a great Backup UPS. Have you ever been right in the middle of a movie and had the power go off for a few seconds. Well the Tivo will go through a gut wrenching 5 minute warmup, meanwhile, the movie is ruined. Especially if you were watching with any amount of pause time. This is also the best protection aganist power surges, and severe power spikes and brownouts. And you will never have a movie ruined and your evening due to a power failure. |

Lots of screen door and some pixalation on a PBS HiDef OTA channel. I set it to "LOW" and got the green edge effect on faces. I now have it set in the middle and things look pretty good. To UMD_Terp, yep, it's got a slight tilt down on the left. I'll follow your directions and get it as close as I can. I'm using "AUTO" color setting for now but hope to be able to tweak it soon. I'll let you know then. Analog is viewable but nothing to brag about. 480 digital is stunning and, lucky for me, all my locals broadcast in digital. I see now why local news people fear digital and HD. Once again, all your comments made a big difference and I really appreciate your input. |

New member Username: Laurieb14Saco, ME USA Post Number: 1 Registered: Oct-04 | Hi all, Brand new here. Finally bought a 62725 at Tweeter in Maine yesterday. Paid 4699.95 plus tax plus $40 shipping/set up. Feeling a bit queezy reading some of the prices you guys are talking about. I don't mind paying a premium for local "care", but don't like being taken to the cleaners. Dan and anybody else whose gotten a better price from Tweeter or Sound Advice... Anybody willing to send or fax a copy of that receipt. Anybody want to give me a heads up on, what I REALLY need to buy as it is clear, I'll leave with $500 of cable, cleaner and whatever if I go back there. Being at the edge of my budget, anybody willing to prioritize (i.e. "clean power", component video cables, etc) what I should get first. I have the usual setup with DirecTV with TIVO, and an AV receiver (only fair quality) and an uninterruptable power supply from my former computer setup. Unfortunately, I just found out it is impossible for me to get the new HD satellite from DirecTV here as it is only 19 degrees above the horizon here and not possible even on my roof (sigh), but I should be able to get the locals in HD over the air. Should I buy some sort of reference disk to help with setup? Thanks a bunch for any and all advice for the newbie awaiting her set on Wed.(unless I cancel cuz the price was a rip-off!) Thanks, and I'll report back on how the set up goes for a newbie! |
DEEZNUTZ Unregistered guest | I just got back from P.C. Richard's in Paramus, NJ where I picked up the Mitsu WD-62725 for $3520, $350 for 5 year warranty & $250 for the matching stand. I gotta say that all this for under $4500 delivered is a great deal! When I got there I met with the salesguy I always buy from and he took me to the back of the store to see the WD-52725 still in the box....they just recieved it hours earlier. They told me to wait by the Mitsu section of the TV displays and minutes later, they replaced the WD-52525 with the 725. Awesome picture and a huge noticeable difference from the WD-62525 behind it with the high glare. Everyone started gathering around the set immediately....that's how good it looked. Funny thing, even Aaron Williams from the NJ Nets was at the store and became one of the many checking out the Mitsu. Needless to say, it took me about 2 minutes before I finally decided on purchasing it...I wanted to hold off until I could see if the glare issues was taken care of. I really wanted the WD-62825 with the built-in PVR but can't wait for its release and couldn't really justify the price jump. My set will be delivered at the end of October since construction is still not finished in my new home. Any info on the firware upgrade on the 725's??? |
New member Username: Mechanical_danOviedo, Florida Usa Post Number: 3 Registered: Oct-04 | Bite Tyson has a good point. Some of the prices stated in these forms are unrealistic. Somebody may be getting confused with the model tv they acutally bought. Mitsubishi makes 6 different models to chose from. WD52525,WD62525,WD52725,WD62725,WD52825,WD62825. Of course there is a big price difference from one model to another. If your quoteing a price, make sure you give the correct model. If a dealer payes 3000 for a WD62725 then markes it up 50% he would start selling is at a suggested price of 4500. That gives them about 1000 to work with. They have to make at least 500 on the deal to pay overhead costs, the salesman, shipping ect. the salesman told me they are buying 80 WD62725's at a time. So they may be getting as low as 2500. 'That would be the only way they would sell one for 3500. As some people have been quoting here. |

DEEZNUTZ Unregistered guest | Hey Danny...I think you are a little confused with the pricing. First of all, the big price jump is going to be the WD52825 & WD62825 series at about $1200 more. Thw WD52725 & WD62725 are going for about $100 more than its predecessor. The only difference is the anti-glare shield henc ethe small price difference while the 825 series has the built-in PVR. The price of $3520 I gave is realistic and can be achieved for the 62" 725 series....like I said it came to about $4500 after taxes, shipping, warranty and Mitsubishi stand. |

We can talk and I'll be happy to share 10% of my actual savings or $10(whichever is more) with you. I have a 60 day price match guarantee from Tweeter, so I'm happy to hear in the next few weeks from whomever thinks they can help save me a few $$-and-almost as important to me, help me feel less "taken". The $4,699 did not include the extra service contract or a stand, and did not include $40 for delivery. That all being said-I LOVE MY TV!! Just hope the Red Sox make my first evening with it worth watching!! The glare shield definitely helps ALOT compared to what I have had (flat screen SONY WEGA CRT that almost became unwatchable in daylight), but is definitely not a perfect answer. There is enough glare that, although the TV is very watchable in bright daylight, I have gone ahead and ordered new shades for my windows and hope that will help even more. After all, it's only money (sigh...). I have many windows and french doors directly across from the TV, so I was asking alot of a glare shield. I feel the protection of the shield is important in my household, so I'd don't plan to remove the shield regardless. So...email me if you think you can help. Thanks! |
New member Username: CdnewtonPost Number: 3 Registered: Oct-04 | For anybody who spent more on a 62725 I think you can rest assure that the individuals who are quoting prices at 3500 either are simply confused about the models or being flat out deceptive. Maybe it makes them feel good to pretend they spent less. Mitsubishi has price control for authorized retailers, similiar to Bose products. In fact when a store such as Ultimate has sales you will see that Mits and Bose are often excluded. Now having said that if you purchase online from a non authorized retailer you might get a great deal but forget about your warranty. I was able to get a 62525 for 3700 but there is no way get a 725 for that (at least not at this time, maybe in a few months). I think it is evident buy the numerous generous offers laid to anyone who can prove the price. By last check someone with a 62725 and receipt for 3600 stands to make over $100 from others if they could prove it. |
Unregistered guest | I just ordered the 62725 and paid $3850 plus tax plus $399.95 for a 5yr extended warranty brought the total to $4572.39 delivered. I live in Oklahoma City. I bought from an authorized dealer. I suggest instead of going to a large chain dealer, go to a small local shop where you deal with the owner who will appreciate your business. Mine gave me the best price without much of a haggle. Bob R in OKC |
PGowan Unregistered guest | I am looking to buy either a 62725 or 62825 with base the 725 offered at 3995 + 500 for base I dont like the base for the 725 and think it would look better on the 825 base not out for another couple of weeks have only seen the 825 on the internet and now after reading all what I think is BS about pricing am very leary of purchasing right now |
New member Username: CdnewtonPost Number: 4 Registered: Oct-04 | okbrewer, 3850 is about right. I was referring to the supposed fantastic deal mentioned earlier in the thread of 3460 for a 62725. Generally the 725 will run 150-200 more than the 525 which would put your price exactly in line with what I have paid. But anybody who says they can get a 62725 for 3400 is frankly not truthfull. And I would disagree with using a local shop is better. I purchased from a major "higher" end chain and got a great deal with a cheaper warranty- with bulb coverage. PGowan I think your that price quote is very reasonable, you may be able to get another 100 or so but not much. |
okbrewer Unregistered guest | I didn't buy the optional stand because it looks cheap, but my dealer said I can have it for $200. If I can't find something else, I might have to take him up on it. Any ideas on other stands or pieces of furniture that will work as a stand? I'm having trouble finding something 58-60" wide, and I want it about 20-24" high. Any ideas or suggestions? |
FL Unregistered guest | okbrewer, If you like maxium shelf space, check out the Bell'o AVS2601 http://bello.com/audio-video.asp Rectangular shape. Two shelves for components. It's pricey at about $750 although GG offered it to me for $538 when I put a deposit on the 62725 for $3800 although I cancelled it to wait and see the 62825 (primarily for the glare problem) Also see the Cosmic VT2 by Omnimount http://www.omnimount.com/product.asp?p=72 I've seen this at Costco stores for $224 A bit more "triangular" in shape like the TV. Gives a slimmer profile. Bare stainless steel look. Only one shelf for components. A great buy is the Bush VS74377 http://www.bush-furniture-online.com/bush_VS74377-03.html Two glass shelves for components, triangular shape. But the "powder steel" finish looks like it's painted or maybe baked on enamel. Still pretty nice, good price at about $299. Best Buy has them. Spoke to Bush customer service...very nice people. Forget their official website with more details and assembly instruction All the above are hi tech looking stands, not wood or traditional. I think the width is perfect for the 62" Mitsu DLP's. Just don't know what to do about the glare on the 62725. I have high ceilings with skylights and many windows! Hope the 62825 is better, or Mitsu offers a glassless frame if removing protective screen. Philly |

New member Username: Laurieb14Saco, ME USA Post Number: 3 Registered: Oct-04 | I tried to price match at Tweeter's tonite. I bought a 62725 for $4,699 plus tax, plus delivery. I have receipts showing the price at $4,000 at two other authorized dealers. They showed me the fine print on their "price match guarantee" that the offer was only for "local" (25 miles)retailers. They told me they would consider "possibly" matching regional offers or would match from a distant Tweeters. The two receipts I have are for distant places from dealers that would not deliver to the great North woods of Maine, so no luck so far. I am still working on them as I can be quite persuasive and still need to buy speakers and a few other items, but it doesn't look terribly hopeful. I'm still willing to share 10% of my savings with anyone who can send a receipt from a more local dealer or distant dealer who would ship. The dealer would have to be an authorized Mitsu dealer and I would only share a portion on any actual savings I'm able to get. On the issue of stands, I love the stand I got, the BDI 8027 in cherry. http://www.bdiusa.com/whats_new/axis_8027.shtml The picture here doesn't do it justice at all, but, trust me or find one to look at, it is gorgeous in cherry. Not cheap, but looks like a piece of furniture. They were actually using one as their display stand in the "home theater" room at Tweeters. It is 18" high which is perfect for seated viewing in my room. Finally, I want to say the picture is gorgeous. Just got my HD DirecTv installed today and I'm absolutely mesmerized by the HD Discovery channel even when looking at bugs (yuk!). Laureen in Maine |
okbrewer Unregistered guest | I found a cocktail table that is the perfect size to serve as a stand for my recently ordered 62725. Ralph Unregistered guest | Why do so many people want a copy of the receipt? I bet there is some kind of illegal price setting on these TV's and Mits is going to punish the low price stores so the rest of them can keep the profits outragiously high. Don't send anyone copies they are not really an interested buyer. I will just tell my Frys, GG, or Ultimate salesman I will not pay over a certain amount and if they don't like it I will go elsewhere. Thank you for reading my well thought-out and excellent analysis of the matter. PS if you can't print this out you can paypal me $20 and I will send you a copy. |
New member Username: CdnewtonPost Number: 5 Registered: Oct-04 | Ralph, "Why do so many people want a copy of the receipt?" To get a fair price you yourself suggested Mits is trying to keep prices from plummeting, which is not at all illegal. "Don't send anyone copies they are not really an interested buyer" Most of us have already bought or are going to shortly otherwise why waste the time. "I will just tell my Frys, GG, or Ultimate salesman I will not pay over a certain amount.." Of course then you may not get a tv at all!! "my well thought-out and excellent analysis of the matter" Not really. "PS if you can't print this out you can paypal me $20 and I will send you a copy" A poor attempt at humor! |
New member Username: Laurieb14Saco, ME USA Post Number: 4 Registered: Oct-04 | Ralph and anyone else wondering why I would pay so much for this set and then try to chase down some receipts, I am loving my new TV watching the Red Sox (hope, hope hope....)in high definition. I researched for a long time, and saved, and when I finally decided on the model I wanted, I had the "fever" and was chomping at the bit to FINALLY have my first high definition TV to match my new high definition DirecTV service. I live in Maine and there is NO other dealer in the entire state that offered this TV other than the Tweeter's I bought from. I managed to hold out two days having walked from the store saying I was sure I could beat their price even if I needed to get it delivered from afar. They didn't really care. They only had a few of the sets available and were not concerned about their ability to move them. (Plus they kept reminding me about their 60 day (versus the usual 30 day) price match guarantee). So I knew I was paying top dollar at the time, but have to say, I REALLY wanted this TV (my first big screen TV ever) and was like a kid awaiting Christmas morning. I had the week off so I could mess with it and since they had the price match guarantee, I went for it. Now the fine print says they will only match another retailer in New England if I can prove they would sell it at that price. I only know one way to prove it-a receipt. Since I am talking about trying to save $700, it is worth the effort for me and worth offering to share some $$ if someone goes thru the trouble of sending me a copy of their receipt. I have 60 days to make my case. Hoping to convince them that I will return the TV within the first 30 days and buy from farther away if I can show them I could realistically do it. However, to be honest, I didn't feel comfortable (and really still don't) about going to another state (at least 2 hours for me) and making this large a purchase and not having "local" service, especially given the large number of large screen TVs that have needed replacement based on what I've read on these boards. I also would have had to borrow a truck and rope in friends or relatives to help me. I had nightmares thinking about how I could get it home from Mass (3 hours) and safely get it to its new stand in my home. I'm sure that Mitsubishi has a floor price they ask their authorized dealers not to undercut. It is these restrictions from manufacturers that result in some stores making you add the item to your cart (or call) before showing you the price. The manufacturer has set a price below which an authorized dealer is not allowed to "advertise" or "list". Nothing illegal or even unexpected about that. I knew I was not getting the best price, but I did want the specific TV I got and I love it. No harm in trying to get a few bucks back if I can. I'm sure that is more than you ever wanted to know about my life, but I hope that helps you understand my request. Laureen |

okbrewer Unregistered guest | My set arrived today, ahead of schedule! All I can say is "WOW!" It is bigger in the house than it appeared in the store! I was planning on it arriving next week so I don't yet have the HDTV package from my cable provider, and I haven't gotten it set up fully, but out of the box the picture and sound are awesome. Did I mention that it is big!? It will take a bit of getting used to, but that should be easy. Can't wait to get everything completely set up and watch some movies! Did I say it was big!? |
Tim H Unregistered guest | After reading all the postings, I had it in my mind that I would not pay more than 4k for the 62725. I felt that $4000 was fair and if I had to wait until the price came down - I would! So, I was able to use this to my advantage. I flat-out told the sales guy. "You have 2 competitors right across the street. I start with you & then go to them next." I also told him that I was not in a hurry. And, I knew that the $100 delivery/setup charge was negotiable. With this said, I am getting the 62725 with the 5 yr extended warranty delivered for $4400 (before taxes). The 5 yr warranty was $399. I hope this helps with your negotiations. FYI - I live in the Dallas area. |
New member Username: MrmitsPost Number: 3 Registered: Sep-04 | Customer service should be considered when making your buying decision. My wd62725 arrived on wednesday the 13th. Thursday the 14th it died (no video, audio ok, red light on front- owners manual indicated this is lamp failure). My store delivered me a new one on fri the 15th. To me, the extra couple of hundred i may have paid ($3996, $275 for the stand) is well worth it. FYI- this tv is absolutely awesome. |
ItsMe Unregistered guest | After a lot of research, I bought a Mitsubishi WD-62725 a couple of weeks ago from Good Guys. Like many of you, I had misgivings about the glare on the screen shield. Turns out, the screen shield is a bonus - an added option. When there are kids around with visitors to my home, I put the shield on as a protection. Without it, it is EXACTLY THE SAME SCREEN AS A SAMSUNG OR ANYTHING ELSE!! THE SAME!! And taking the screen on/off is MUCH easier on the 725 models as compared to the 525 models. Takes me about 3 seconds, no more. The screen is a bonus, use it if you like it. If I had known this, I would have bought a 525 long ago. I bought the 725 for $200 more just because the screen is a lot easier to take off (and maybe the newer model will have some better features that I will find out about eventually). I am extremely happy with the picture. And by the way, DON'T get cable - regular satellite feed looks better than digital cable, and as good as (most of the time) HD cable. I found out the hard way. The one downside - the bulb blew after two weeks. They are replacing it, but it doesn't give a good feeling. My only consolation is, I have found plenty of complaints of bulbs blowing on all other major brands, and I have a 5-year extended warranty. |

npc2396 Unregistered guest | You are correct about Tweeter. I took the deal to them and they passed. The best they would do was $4500 including tax and shipping but wanted another $599 for the warranty. The big screen store is an authorized dealer. The have multiple stores in the MD/DC area. Look up their web site. You cannot purchase over the web so it's not a discount online store. |

New member Username: Irq77Fort Collins, CO USA Post Number: 1 Registered: Oct-04 | Hello all! I received my wd-62725 on Tuesday. I experienced what seemed to be dust particles being projected onto the screen. I actually saw four different instances of this on the screen. On three it just left dark spots, but one instance you could actually see what looked like a dust fiber. I could even see thread frey and a twist in the fiber. After calling the local Ultimate Electronics store I purchased it from they said they had never heard of this before on this model and seemed surprised. Later the local store agreed to swap it out with another brand new wd-62725. I received the new set Thursday afternoon (yesterday) and it also had two instances of the dark spots. Again the local store agreed to swap it out for a new set as the delivery guy was able to experience what I was describing on the two sets. I'm now waiting for my third brand new wd-62725 on Saturday afternoon. I'm worried about the quality of this product. Does anyone have any thoughts or experience on the issue? Thanks! |
