I have a Sony DVD player (about 3 years old, don't have the model # atm). This weekend I tried to connect it to a brand new Sony Grand Wega (Model # KDF50WE655) using component video. I was told that component video would give me a much better picture than S-Video.
When connected using the component video cable, the dvd image was very grainy and did not handle fast motion very well. I was actually very surprised at how bad the picture quality was. When I reconnected the dvd using S-Video, the picture quality grealty increased...alot.
I RTFM over and over (not that there's alot to read on this topic) and made all the connections. What am I doing wrong? If component video is indeed better I want it set up at my home.
Thanks.

The player probably had bad components or bad progressive mode.
Compponent is better than S-video because it's using 3 cables compared to 1.
One question is, are you high quality component cables?
