What would cause the audio test on my dvd player not to work?

I have the Samsung 841 and I know that a lot of people have had problems with it but I love mine and haven't had any problems except I can't hear anything on the audio test that is on this player in the set up. All the speakers are hooked up and the audio test from the Star Wars DVD works when using my 841. Could someone enlighten me on why it doesn't work?
