Got my new Yamaha DVS5770 (identical to the S1500 except the 70 is silver, the 1500 black) As I have yet to hook up all the SACD cables (talk about a chore!) I can only report on stereo in analog or digital, and DVD-video. The sound is amazing in its clarity and definition. All instruments come through clearly and naturally - and the spectrum is mercifully free from "hot spots." I listen to mostly classical and opera - and with discs in that genre the Yamaha proved itself to be worthy of it accolades. Sound was warm, full, and natural - with tight bass and highs that were clean and refreshing in their lack of distortion. Even older CDs, which often sound, well, screechy and tinny, sounded half-way good on this player. the big downside for me is the difficulty in programming. You absolutely need a TV screen to set everything up, and also need it when changing from one format to another. The on-player display only gives timing and SACD,DVD-A or Progressive LED lights. Not nearly sufficient, in my opinion. Aside from the programming, I have to give this player a 5 on the ole 1-5 scale. Once I get the SACD cables installed, I'll write further reports on the Yamaha's operation and sound qualities. You could do A LOT worse than this player, and I think it will prove to be a big seller.
