What's the best deal for about $200 on a DVD player that can play decent DVD Audio and SACD. Of course it should play DVD, DVD-R, DVD-RW, CD, CD-R, CD-RW, MP3, WMP. And it should decode DD 5.1 and DTS. I think all current players are capable of progressive scan with component output.
Pioneers entry level players get good critics. I have a DV-565A, IMO a nice introduction to hi-rez.
Some advices:
- Recognized DACs (Burr Brown, Wolfson etc.), minimum 96KHz/24 bits per channel. - "true DSD" processing (difficult to find out if...) - Surround/Subwoofer cutoff frequency in line with your speakers - You will not use receiver's bass management. - Compare CD quality with dedicated player, if necessary.
Cheers AL

Check out the Toshiba SD-4960. It's the new kid on the block.
Harman Kardon has a budget universal player coming out soon too i think.
