hi, I have a Sony WEGA XBR 36" tube TV that I purchased new about 6 years ago. The model# is KV-36XBR200. It does have component inputs.
Question: Will I get the benefits of a progressive scan DVD player using the component outputs with my TV?

Component inputs exist for over ten years. They were in some high end computer monitors and were called RGB inputs. Way before progressive scan. My take is that although you will get a good 480i picture (better than S-video), you would not get 480P.
