Ok, i am a newbie. I have a 40" XBR sony wega tv (tube), i also just bought a 6.1 Onkio system and was looking of a dvd player. I got many mixed reviews for the samsun dvi connection... should i get this?, i was told that dvi on a TV tube will not make it any better than composite. I was looking to spend around 300 to 400. wanted to get the best for my money. I also heard something about a Faroudja DCDi Technology is this a must??????

thanks for your help

With your system I would not get a cheap DVD/CD player. The Samsung that is currently on the market - the 841, has a LOT of problems. When the new Samsung 941 comes out the end of September, you might consider it - about $300USD.
I would seriously consider the new Denon 2910 when it comes out next month. It is said to be very good - about $575USD.
The Faroudja technology is very good if you're using progressive scan and hi-res TV - but most good DVD players costing more than $500USD will have it this year. The DVI is mainly for plasma or other flat-screen sets.
If you want more information on the Samsung 841, go to Google and type in "Samsung 841 problems" (no quotation marks) and read for yourself all of the problems people are having with it. Good luck. . .

Samsung is some of the cheapest, most problem prone equipment made. It goes alot deeper than one DVD player, I wouldn't touch anything that says Samsung on it.

Thanks, actually i live in canada and i did read about the problems but i was sold with the DVI. I bought it before i could read your comments, the image is deffinatelly better than my old toshiba (i compared side by side).
I hate things about it:
-Its looks cheap,
-the menus look cheap,
-the remote control you have to aim it right at the dvd or else it does not work.
-there is a delay once you press play (1 sec, the image appears first then the sound comes in)
I still playing with it, but the only thing that is keeping me to return it is that the image is looks better than my old toshiba (because of DVI connection?) and the fact that it can read all formats.
Is there another DVD player i should consider? with DVI? - would any new progressive dvd player be better than my old toshiba? (old toshiba freezes)
I am considering rasing my limit on the dvd player, i really dislike this one
Thanks for the input guys
