Please understand that I know a lot, but surround sound theater systems is not one of them. I don't know the lingo or acronyms either so keep that in mind if you shoot me a reply and expect me to understand.
I have an "out of the box" 5.1 Bose setup from 15 yrs ago which still sounds great. That's my extent of the surround sound knowledge. Pretty much plug n play.
Anyways, I have a new finished basement room that will be for my kids and I need to setup another system similar to the Bose I already have but at no way the cost. On a mega budget (like $300 total)
What do I need if its not a box package? I prefer flush ceiling mount speakers. So 5qty of them... 2 back, 2 front & center? Can they all be the same type of speaker? Then a powered sub-woofer also? Now what do I do with them... do they require a receiver or similar to control the sound??
what the hell does a sound bar do and is it necessary?
Please let me have all suggestions possible, even the 2 cent opinions.
this is somewhat what I was looking at for speakers:
