New member Username: Jar_head2010Post Number: 2 Registered: Jun-11 | I know there may be other threads about this subject, but I wanted to ask my specific case. I am going to buy a Samsung 32" LCD HDTV, and a Philips Surround Sound HTIB. I have a PS3 Slim 160gb that I would also like to hookup to play through the surround sound. I wanted to know what cables, converters, etc. I would need in order for the surround sound to work both with the TV and the PS3. Any help, links, or suggestions are appreciated! I am trying to save as much money as possible, I'm a college student and I really don't need anything state of the art. Nor do I need many other suggestions on what I should get. I know Bose, Onkyo, etc. may be much better for Surround Sound. I just simply would like to know what Accessories I need for the current setup I have planned. Also if I do need a Converter box, would I need Coaxial In to Optical Out, or would I need Coaxial Out to Optical In? If you go to this site below and click on "Can I connect my PS3/Xbox 360 to the home theater system?" it brings up a picture telling me I need a converter. It just doesn't say which kind of converter. I have found both mentioned above. Which one is it referring to? Look for this system: yht-395 You can buy a Phillips Blue ray under 100$ with excellent picture! The bid difference between the Yamaha and the others you listed is the number of input usable, on Phillips and Samsung you has only one input which is realy not enought today! |

I just wanted to make sure the plan I had would work. My PS3 plays BluRay, the only reason I am getting this Philips with a DVD player with upconversion is to use that DVD player as the receiver. Alot cheaper, but also less ports. Which is fine by me, all I will have hooked up is the PS3 and the TV. Thanks! |

Even if you connect the PS3 directly to the TV via HDMI the audio will not out put to the Phillips becaus eof the PS3 set up. Check out newegg.com, vanns.com, 6thave.com for cheap receivers and build your system over time. New receivers will allow the audio to pass through to the TV via HDMI till you can afford speakers and then go slow again buying them. Check out his site $124 for an Onkyo receiver. http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/ONKHTRC230/Onkyo-HT-RC230-5.1- Channel-3-D-Ready-Home-Theater-Surround-Receiver/1.html |

Samsung TV to Surround Sound system via Optical Audio Cable. This is it. Simple, all the hookups I need, works perfect. Play Cable TV thru surround sound, PS3 thru surround sound, and DVDs on the surround sound. Thanks for all your suggestions. |
