Hello all. Would like your expertise in helping a friend of mine pick some new surround speakers. He just built a house and is in the process of moving in. As you can imagine, his budget is tight after having just built a new house and all the extra little expenses that add up.
Here is what he's got. Onkyo 6.1 Receiver. He thinks it is a 601 or similar. Left and Right Mains are JBL with 8" speakers Center is a Polk that has several 3" speakers in a bar type arrangement He currently has no powered sub and is concerned he has no physical room for one. He may upgrade his mains to compensate for that. He does have a pair of "bass shakers" that he can put into his couch.
What he needs are three rear speakers. LR, CR, RR. His budget is $300 for the rear speakers. He is considering using brackets like this for his rears: http://www.ascendacoustics.com/pages/products/access/brackets/omni_series20.html
He would prefer the speaker cabinets and the mounts to be white, though.
Appreciate all feedback and comments. Thanks in advance. He realizes that he may benefit from upgrading some of the other components, but right now is mainly interested in getting some budget rears without throwing money away on garbage. I tried to get him to look at the Ascend Accoustics HTM-200 SE, but even the B stock are a little higher than he is willing to spend at the moment.
Paradigm is a good bang for the buck speaker company. Micro Monitors $260pr, Atom Monitors $360pr, CC190 center$350. Forget that 3 surround stuff 5.1 is all you need. Micros only come in black but the Atoms come in white. Definitive Technology new sub Super Cube 2000 list for $600 is only 10 1/4 x10 3/4 x 10 3/4 inches ultra compact sub, 650 watts. Build your system slowly and when your done you will have a killer.
