Trying to figure out what would be the best reciever and speaker combo that I can get from Best Buy(Got a bunch of gift card for there).Mostly I would be using it to listen to the radio or my mp3 while entertaining but occationally I would use it for surround sound for movies and such. My budget is $500 roughly. I'm kind of a newbie to the home audio aspect. Currently I'm using a late 70's panasonic receiver (Has an 8 track player in it)hooked to a pair of "white van" Elite Audio ea-2840's that I gave $40 bucks for so anythings gotta be better than that.
My advice is to buy a receiver and just two speakers to begin building a good home theater system. You can add a center, surrounds and a sub later possibly as birthday gifts, holiday gifts or just when you have some extra cash. Speakers: There are some very good speakers that will extend your buget to $550-600 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Definitive+Technology+-+ProMonitor+800+4-1/2%22+Book shelf+Speaker+(Each)+-+Gloss+Black/7656379.p?id=1190678281548&skuId=7656379 An outstanding speaker would be the Martin Logans

If you have to stay in your budget the Energys are a good speaker.
All these speakers are would be better suited as surrounds and can be moved there if and when you expand your set up. The Martin Logans are an outstanding speaker add the Motion 4s later and you have a killer set up. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/MartinLogan+-+Motion+4+4%22+Bookshelf+Speaker+(Each) +-+Piano+Black/9627603.p?id=1218133479309&skuId=9627603
