Hi I need some help... I'm very much an amateur in electronics and I'm trying to hook up a set of surround sound speakers from an old KLH Audio system to my Insignia IS-HC040917 receiver. The speakers are fine but I'm having an issue with the subwoofer. The subwoofer I have has jacks on the back to accept bare speaker wire but the "SW Output" on my receiver is like an RCA jack. I saw an earlier post on here where one of the recommendations was to cut off one end of an RCA connector and strip back the insulation to get the bare wire. I did that and hooked everything up but I still get no sound from the sub. Can anyone help me?

Do you have a model number for the KLH speaker set? Is there a power cord attached? If there are terminals for speaker in and speaker out then it may be that the Subwoofer is not powered and needs the front left and right speaker wire input to it before running out to the speakers.

Model number on the KLH set is HA7000. There's no power cord on the subwoofer only black and red spots to put the bare wire into.

So basically I may have to run from the front right and left channels of my receiver to the subwoofer and then back out again from the subwoofer to the front and left channels?

If there are two sets of four terminals on the sub, then yes, you have it!

I took scans from the owner's manuals but they are to big to upload. I can email them to you if you want and if it will help I can also send pictures of the back of subwoofer and receiver.

I was afraid of that, that is just a speaker and needs an amplified signal that your Insignia is not capable of (very few receivers are). So basically it is useless unless you buy a plate amp for it. You would be much better off buying a regular subwoofer.
