I just got done hooking up the following - Bose 321, PS3, verizon fios dvr box, Samsung LCD

here is how i hooked it up

Fios to Samsung via HDMI
PS3 to Samsung via HDMI
Bose to Samsung via HDMI

I then ran Digital audio cable form Bose to the Samsung - no sound from Bose

If I take the Digital Audio out and use RCA I get sound

What isn't hooked up

The Blue Ray on the Samsung LCD is absolutely unbelievable

Samsung is a nice unit for display. Sounds like an audio menu setting issue.on the monitor. Somewhere there should be a choice as to how the audio gets sent out from the display unit...

I looked thru the settings on the Samsung and dont see anything to specify Digital Audio. Should the digital audio go from the cable box to the Bose instead of Bose to the Samsung?

The cable is not a digital audio but an optical audio

I don't think you want to bypass the tv but I guess you could do that.

Are you getting sound from the Samsung when the Fios and PS3 are in use?

Are you sure the Samsung has pass through for the digital audio?

Optical cable is just a means to transmit digital audio. Let me see if I understand what you're trying to do...

Are you trying to transmit audio from the BD to the Samsung through the optical cable or the other way around from The Samsung to the Bose 321 HT?

Each component is hooked to the samsung via HDMI - I thought the Optical cable would then transmit all sound from the Samsung into the Bose

I only get sound from the FIOS and PS3 if I use RCA cables

Thanks for your help

Greetings Tom,

If you see a red light on your optical cable (don't look directly at it it will be very obvious) when it is connected to the TV (the TV turned on with some programming displayed) then there is likely to be a setting on your Bose unit to tell it to look for a digital input signal. If there is no red light from the TV, and that seems to me to be very unlikely but then there must be a setting to tell it to output digital audio unless the cable is damaged.

OK, so you're trying to get the sound from the TV to the Bose as I thought.

As Jim pointed out; you should verify the TV optical output then look for settings on the Bose. Somewhere within your settings something is not being told what to look for where. Can you tell us what model Samsung?
