I'm moving into my on-campus apartment (yes apartment, with my own living room, etc) next semester and i lucked out and got a nice little scholarship. I'm using some of that money to buy a 40" tv (a cheap one obviously), and the rest to buy a surround sound system. Now under normal circumstances I am a bit of an audiophile (did car audio competitions in high school, went after the C-Curve, etc), but my classes are expensive and I can only spend around $500 on a system, so quality isn't my most primary concern. I just need the living room to get lourder than normal when watching TV/Videos, and have a receiver with an FM transmitter and Ipod Connectivity (for those collegiate social gatherings that rely on "DJ Ipod" to supply the mixes). I was looking particularly at this model, http://www.crutchfield.com/p_580HT5200B/Onkyo-HT-S5200.html, because Onkyo's not too shabby and the price is within my range. And with that being said....... Here are my questions: 1) How do I run wiring to the rear speakers without having access to an attic? 2) Will I have to just bite the bullet and run the wiring across the ceiling for the rear speakers? 3) Are there any good wireless options out there that I could use? 4) In regards to mounting, what other ways are there to mount the speakers without having to drill into the wall (apartment doesn't allow that). 5) Should I just give up on surround sound and get a receiver, an amplifier, and a couple of monitor speakers? (once again, quality isn't at the top of my list, just louder, FM transmitter, ipod connectivity) Any help or recommendations you all can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and take care. |

You may be better off with a receiver and 2 decent speakers instead of 7 $#&!!y ones. Onkyo, Denon, Pioneer for receivers and Paradigm, Energy Take series, or about a thousand other brand for speakers. |

Not sure if these would fit your price range. See also: http://www.amphony.com/products/wireless-surround-sound.htm |

Although I am a little unfamiliar with the technology I am aware that there are systems that may suit your needs. There is a system that only uses one speaker and a wireless sub while achieving similar or as good surround sound quality. see link> http://www.polkaudio.com/homeaudio/surroundbar/buynow.php What do you guys think? |
