I have an LCD HTDV, receiver w/ 7.1 sound and a PS3. Currently I am running digital audio from my PS3 to the receiver and from my TV to my receiver. There are only 2 digital audio inputs on my receiver.
My question is: When I get my DirecTV receiver (HD-DVR) will I be able to run it through my TV and still get surround sound from the TV's digital audio out or will it be downgraded to stereo?
What's my best option for setup??
TV: (this one i think) Vizio SV470XVT1A FHDTV http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/navigate.do?dest=5%26item%3D408190&pid=_Froogle &ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=408232
Receiver: ONKYO HT-S5200 7.1-Channel Black Home Theater System http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882120141
Once you get your Directv box connect the audio to your receiver in place of your TV, you do not want your TV messing with the audio portion of any input device if you can help it.
What happens if I get an Xbox? I only have 2 digital inputs in my receiver. I guess there is also a coax digital audio input on my receiver, but is that the same quality/surround as the digital optical?
There are always those that will argue but for all practical purposes the different style digital inputs are the same, even the analog inputs on the receiver out of a device like an XBox would be better than connecting to the TV then back to the receiver.
