I have a 7.1 Yamaha Reciever, my front speakers and center channel are 6 ohm, and my rear channels are 8 ohm. I have switched the reciever to run at 6 ohm, and sounded great for about 6 months. Recently my reciever goes into overload everytime any sound comes through. Is there anyway to fix this without replacing my speakers to all 6 or 8 ohm? I know with car audio there are different wiring schemes to drop or increase impedance, can you do that with home audio?
I have ran 6ohm speakers and 8ohm speakers lots of times for years and never had a problem, I would say its your reciever, but you should check your speakers and wires for problems first. and wiring schemes, not a good idea
