Next I connected the receiver to the DVD player with another HDMI cable and finally i connected the speakers to the reciver through monster cable ( though the rear speakers i cenncted directly to sub woofer). After all these wires and connecxtions there is no sound when I watch a dvd on the player. What am i missing here besides the expertise??? |

You also need to set up the DVD player. The manual for the HK avr245 wasn't available on line or I could help you more, but I have to think that the surrounds do not get hooked up to the sub. This might help http://www.ceaconnectionsguide.com/ |

They do not process any digital audio signal that may be carried over the HDMI cable. This is from page 9 of the HK AVR 245 owners manual: HDMI Inputs and Output: HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is a newer type of connection for transmitting digital audio and video signals between devices. Although the AVR 245 is not capable of processing HDMI signals, if your video display is HDMI-capable, you may connect up to two HDMI sources here, and then connect the HDMI output to your video display for improved video performance. It is recommended that you disable the HDMI audio function of your video display, and make a separate digital audio connection from the source device to one of the AVR's coaxial or optical digital audio inputs to benefit from the AVR 245's multichannel audio processing. The AVR 245 will not convert other types of video to HDMI, and you will not be able to view the on-screen displays using the HDMI connection. |
