Saturday, September 02, 2006 - 22:05 GMT I read some articles that highly recommend a power conditioner over a surge supressor. Any experience with how important this upgrade is? Any recommendations on units?

Tuesday, September 05, 2006 - 15:30 GMT I went to an audio store near me that sells furman ($120.00) and APC ($500.00)power conditioners/supressors. They had told me a noise sniffer showed the furman units to be far superior to other makes in the price range. I showed up and asked for a demonstration. They plugged the sniffer (calibrated at 60HZ) into an ac outlet and we heard a loud buzz. Next they opened two new furman units. Both produced the same loud buzz. The salesman got flustered and hurried over to the APC unit, plugged in the sniffer and - no buzz. He couldn't understand why I walked out without buying anything. I bought a $40.00 belkin surge suppressor. Power conditioning is farther down my priority list.
