I'm looking for advice on how best to connect my DirecTV HD receiver to my HTPC.
Here's the current list of hardware in play and how its all connected.
PC - Homebrew MCE 2005 with a NVidia GT6600 AGP card connected to HD plasma via DVI.
Samsung SIR-TS360 DirecTV receiver connected to Hauppauge 150mce via S-Video.
Audio via optical to SB USB to Sony Receiver.
The outputs on the Samsung receiver are DVI, Component, S-Video and composite. The inputs on the Hauppauge are only Coaxial and S-Video.
I've recently aquired a DVIco FusionHDTV card, but haven't installed it yet. The inputs on it are only Coaxial and S-Video.
So what I'm wondering is what are my options for connecting the receiver to the TV tuner card? Is the way I've got it connected now the best I can do (i.e. via S-Video)? Is there something else out there (card-wise) that I could use that would accept component or DVI?
DIRECTV is excited about the future of HD. The information here will help you determine whether you're properly set up to receive new HD channels as they become available. Even if you're enjoying DIRECTV's current HD lineup, you may need to make a few changes to receive future additions.
