Sterio receiver question

if a sterio receiver has 4 channels and puts out max of 300 watts.... does that mean each channel puts out a set 75 watt, or does it mean say 1 channel is being used, all 300 watts is going to that and not just 75... thanks for the help

If it says a max of 300 watts that generally means total. So yes that would be 75 watts each channel.
