HT Kel Unregistered guest | Ok, I have decided to replace my Kenwood HTIB with a whole new 5.1 system. My budget isn't really set in stone but I figure we need to start somewhere so let's say $1500-2000 for 5.1 + receiver. Feel free to go lower and maybe even higher if it's a great bang for the buck. I have read a lot of posts and seen many opinions on what the best speakers are. I am not necessarily looking for the best but rather the best value that can be found right at this moment (feel free to PM me or post with any clearances on speakers you think would make me happy =) ). No brand allegiance but see notes below. Currently, I am looking at some Boston Acoustics, purely because of the refurb/sale price. VR3 http://www.onecall.com/ProductDetai...age=-1&id=30640 or VR2 for one less C note http://www.onecall.com/ProductDetai...age=-1&id=30638 and PV700 sub, VRX for surrounds http://www.onecall.com/ProductDetai...age=-1&id=30635 http://www.onecall.com/ProductDetai...age=-1&id=30642 Not sure which center, mabye this one http://www.onecall.com/ProductDetai...245165&id=25380 Had a good deal on a refurb Yamaha rx2500 but it seems to have disappeared so w/e comes up... Notes: 1) This is for HT only. No music listening. 2) I want a really clear center channel and kick you in the chest bass. I don't really have a discerning ear, though, as long as it isn't clipping or humming or doing something noticeable, I will probably be blissfully ignorant. 3) Floorstanders or bookshelfs are fine (have room for either). Center will be above a projection screen, though. 4) HDMI switching, while it could be nice, isn't necessary and will prob cost too much or not work quite right. 5) 19x17 room. 6) No WAF. 7) Fair number of components. PC, HD cable box, Oppo, PS3 when it comes out. Thanks in advance ! |

Harman Kardon AVR135 for a receiver at US$449.00 Wait on the rear surrounds until you can afford matching speakers. I always suggest quality over quanity. You will find this setup very satisfying and something you can build on over the years. Good speakers last a long time. B&W, Paradigm, JBL, Boston Acoustics, Polk, etc. etc. all make speakers that are comparable in price and performance. Happy Holidays!! |
