Hooking up satellite (Directv), vcr, a/v receiver (with built in dvd player), hdtv

Hi, First of all let me say that I have S-video, component cables, monster cables, optical cables, you name it. I can switch to like 4 inputs on my tv. I'm unable to get my vcr hooked up (it's an older one) actually I can watch a movie, if I remove the s-video cable from the back of my tv, but I'm trying to connect my camcorder to my tv (which I was able to do-I can see the playing tape on the tv), but I'm unable to record the camcorder tape to a vcr tape????????? Help!!!!!!!!!! I think that I just need to start over from the beginning with all of the connections because on video 2 the picturs sucks, therefore I have to turn the channel to 04????????? Who knows????? Thanks
