Surround sound is typically independent of your TV and depends mainly on your media source. DVD players will play Dolby Digital or DTS depending on which one you buy. A VCR must be HI-FI to play prologic surround. Sattelite and some cable boxes have stereo outputs that produce surround if the show is broadcast in surround. All of these sources can be hooked directly to a receiver and your "surround sound" then depends on what your receiver will produce be it Pro-logic, Dolby Digital, DTS, etc. This is all independent of what type tv you have.
