not very smart at this. do i need to run cable from dish to receiver and from receiver to tv to get surround sound on tv? have sound on front 3 speakers and sub when listening to tuner, but nothing with the rear speakers. do i have it setup wrong? thanks for any help.
audio-out from satellite to audio-in into receiver. video-out from satellite into TV.
I am assuming you will not be using your TV's audio as a source and you will be running speakers through your receiver.
Make sure your receiver settings are set correctly- ie: running in 5.1 mode rather than stereo I have a HK and use Logic 7 or Dolby Emulation to get surround from my Dish Network receiver.
Hope this points you in the right direction

i have the same prob and mine is setup like this: Direct tv audio to reciever and direct tv video to tv and the little turds in the rear of the room dont want to work
If your sat. receiver has optical digital output and your a/v receiver has optical inputs, that is the way to go,showtime & hbo have 5.1 audio on some channels,on some movies, and the only way to hear the 5.1 is through the digital output.
