i would like to know if it is a good idea to connect my 2 10 " subs to my home system. Will they become toasted in a month? I already have 2 pickup truck speakers attachecd to my system and they have worked fine (even after i have pounded them for about a year ) they are composed of a tweeter and 8 inch subs. I am aware that car components have 4 ohms of resistance and home stereos are designed for 8 ohms and i figure that the truck speakers work well because the tweet is 4 and the sub is 4. (please correct me if i am wrong) but i would like to know if it would be a good idea or even workable to hook up my 2 10 in subs 2 this system? sould i get another amp and a set of tweets to be able to run these subs safely? also when i hook up the subs in series with my truck speakers the sound quality is dramatically reduced, is that because the resistance is now 12 ohms? I would be eternally gratefull if somone were to share thier knowledge on this subject.
thanx Scott [-DeToX-]

hey scott:
Yes this will work, but like you said, be sure to check your impedence ! car stuff at 4 ohms can be easily raised to 8 ohms using inexpensive in-line resistors.(however you will be losing wattage) Also, with subs, its all about the cross-over. I currently run 2 12" polk audios in band pass boxes. I use a seperate amp just for the subs, which is crossed over using a cheap MTX x-over, powered by a 12v transformer. this set up rocks...you get plenty of power and lots of control of your different levels.one amp for 5 ch surround/ one amp for subs. way cheaper than store bought amped subs ! hope this helps...
