you will find very opinionated arguments to this one major. I have read that optical has cleaner delivery but I run coax on my dvd because it "sounds" warmer to me. Honestly, I really think you should have both and see for yourself if possible.

If you have have a really long run, I'd recommend the optical. Otherwise, it doesnt really matter that much.

My experience corresponds with that of Joseph. But I don't believe we are talking about major differences here.
