Is there a real big listening difference to a 6.1 vs a 5.1 setup?

Im getting a new theater system and an arcam receiver sounded very good, but its only offered in a 5.1 style. i was going to get a 6.1 system, only because more is better right ? but will it makena big difference? i am probably going to get some totem acoustics speakers to go with it. i really liked those. any opinions please. thanks
I have a 7.1 system, and I like it...the surround effects are very enveloping. However, I wouldn't really say it is much better than the 5.1 set-up. There really is not a lot of movies encoded in DTS-ES or DD-EX, so most of the time the rear surrounds are not active.
