Hi all,

this is my first post in this forum. I'm perplexed regarding the use of RCA (audio/video) cables with the CATV coaxial cable. Consider the following:

*Coax from wall to cable box/DVR (Cox Digital Video Recorder);
*Coax from cable box/DVR output to VCR input;
*Coax from VCR output to TV's "cable" input.

From this series connection of the Coax, I can watch cable, record on the DVR and also record on the VCR as needed. When I see hookup diagrams, RCA cables are also used. My confusion is due to the fact that the components work fine together without the RCA cables therebetween. Why are RCA cables needed. Is it because they improve the sound and picture over having just coax cables?

Your explanations are greatly appreciated. Thanks, in advance.
