Could use some direction on the proper hookup of a VCR, DVD Player, A/V Receiver, DirecTV with TIVO, and if possible a C-Band Satellite Receiver. The Mitshubishi has all kind of hookups available. Should I run components directly to the WD-52725 or should I go through the A/V receiver? I have looked through a lot of Arnie's charts and my manuals and now I am totally confused. The wife is getting upset because the components are scattered all over the place and I don't seem to be getting anywhere. If someone can point me in the right direction so that I can get this hooked up I'd appreciate it. Thanks a lot -- Gary

There is a search function on this board use it.
Look at the ultimate set up guide thread.

OK, I looked through the postings again and this is what I came up with. Would really appreciate if someone with a lot more experience at this than me could tell me if it will work. The components to be hooked up are as follows: Mitshubishi WD 52725 HDTV, Onkyo HTS-770 HIB, Onkyo CP-702 6 disc DVD Player, DirecTV TIVO, Zenith VCR (Old) and a Drake C-Band Satellite Receiver. My thoughts as to hookup are as follows:
1) DVD Player Component Video Out to
Receiver Component Video In
DVD Player Digital Audio Optical to Receiver
Digital Audio Optical Input #1
2) DirecTV TIVO S-video (best
connection available) to receiver
S-Video in under the Video 2
option
DirecTV TIVO composite Audio
(Red/White) to Receiver composite in at Video 2
DirecTV Digital Audio Optical Out to
Receiver Digital Audio Optical Input #2
*** With this digitl connection is the
composite connection directly above needed??
3) VCR Composite Out (Best available)
to Receiver Composite In under Video
1 Input
4) C-Band Satellite Composite "To
Monitor" to Composite Input 2 on
Mitshubishi WD 52725
5) Onkyo Receiver Video Component Out
to Mitshubishi Component Input 1
6) Mitshubishi Digital Audio Coaxial to
Onkyo Receiver Digital Audio Coaxial
I'm running components throught the Onkyo Receiver or should I be connecting directly to the TV? I would like to ba able to record from the TV to VCR (which I eventually will replace with a DVD Recorder); which I think I can with this setup. One question I have is that my old TV only had composite and F-Coax inputs, therefore my best hookup was only composite. Now with the Mitshubishi I have all these higher options. Because the best hookup from the DirecTV TIVO unit is S-Video, do I need to run a S-Video out from the Onkyo receiver to the S-Video Composite Input of the Mitshubishi or will the video signal transmit over the component video line already attached? I hope this makes some sense.

Thanks for the help
Gary

I would really appreciate some help with this setup.
As listed in the above post, I have connected the components and powered everything up. I am able to get a picture on the TV with sound through the TV speakers from my outside antenna. I can get a picture from my DVD player but no sound. I have a digital optical cable going from the DVD player to the A/V Receiver. I also have a digital coaxial audio connection going from the A/V Receiver to the TV digital coaxial connection. Should I remove one of these? I have no picture from my DirecTV receiver, but I have sound. As noted in the previous post, I have it attached by s-video to the receiver and digital optical audio cable to the receiver. I also have the other output to the input of the VCR via composite cables. This is so I can record from the TIVO to the VCR. I then have an S-video out from the receiver to the TV. When attempting to view DirecTV I have the TV on channel 3 as always. Basically everything is routed through the A/V receiver as it was with my old TV. The video outs from the A/V receiver are component (for the DVD Player) and S-Video (for DirecTV). I am able to view the C-band satellite as it is connected directly to one of the inputs by composite cables. I just discovered that I also have no video or audio from the VCR. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Ouch! I'm sorry. I have just joined this forum. One thing I can say is; if I could help I would. But I believe the lack of response is that there are a hundred different ways to hook up your system. To try and explain the best way is impossible. My idea ( and to make you look like the hero with your wife...being married myself.......), is to find someone in your area that knows what they are doing. (Look for a hi-end home theatre specialist). Offer them $100.00 'off the books' to set you up when your wife's not around and go from there. Tell her you did it yourself...collect the 'chips' (if you know what I mean) and save them for the next go-around !!!!!

Gary.. Get rid of channel 3 stuff, just let it go right now.

Route every thing possible through your AVR (Surround reciever).

Connect only video to your TV from your AVR, all lines that are used... RCA Composite (1 cable), 1 Svideo (1 cable), then one set of Component video cables.

To get picture, choose the correct input on the display. To get audio choose the correct input on your AVR. For now do not try to use the TV speakers for sound at all, never use them would be my suggestion.

For now, don't try to make the VCR so it can record. After you do this, let us know if at least everything is working aside from recording, then we can address getting the VCR to record to various sources.

PS: Of course connect every device to your AVR using best possible video and audio connection from it.

Optical and Digital coax will always take preceedence over analog / stereo 1 channel audio connections.

On video, Component Video take preceedence over svideo, svideo take preceedence over composite.

This line:
Optical and Digital coax will always take preceedence over analog / stereo 1 channel audio connections.

should read
Optical and Digital coax will always take preceedence over analog / stereo 2 channel audio connections.

OK, I finally had the time to mess with the setup and here's what I currently have that works:

1) On the Mitsu TV ANT 1 I have the outside antenna connected in order to receive local HDTV and regular channels
2) On ANT 2 I have my C-Band satellite receiver connected via F connector coax cable
3) I have the DirecTV TIVO unit OUTput 1 using composite analog cables going to the INput on the VCR. I have the DirecTV TIVO unit S-Video out going to the INput 2 S-Video IN on the Mits TV.
I also have an optical digital audio connection going from the DirecTV TIVO unit to the A/V receiver Optical 2 connector. Finally I have the composite analog cables going from the VCR OUTput to the INput 1 on the Mits TV. This allows me to watch DirecTV, but I haven't been able to record from the TIVO unit onto a VCR tape.
4) I haven't done the DVD player yet, but my thought is to connect from component video out on the DVD player to component video in on the TV and connect an optical digital audio cable from the DVD player to an available optical audio in on the A/V receiver. Does this sound correct or do you have any other suggestions? Thanks
