I am new to this site. I have a couple questions. Which ratio do the letterbox format show on high definition widescreen televisions and which ratio do they not? Some movies that I play on my plasma show the movie in letterbox format while other widescreen movies do not. I have noticed that it is the 1.85:1 aspect ratio that does not show the letterbox. Is this the only ratio that doesnt show letterbox? My second question. Do I have to have any special cables to play Xbox in HD? If yes or no, could you tell me where to hook the cables for better picture and sound?

Movies are produced in different aspect ratios. (Pana-vision, Vista-Vision, etc.) Unless the movie and your TV have the same ration, you will get either side bars or 'letterbox'. This threw me the first time I saw a letter-boxed movie on my HDTV, but I got over it.
Not being an MS slave, I don't know what outputs are on an x-box. If it has component (Red-Blue-Green) then they will provide the best picture.
