I noticed the onkyo 570 has no s-video or optical inputs. Why exactly do I need these? What does this mean for DVD playback, and HDTV audio?

Optical inputs are usually used for Dolby Digital and DTS. I've heard that you can't do those modes without it.
I don't know much about s-video though.
