I ended up paying about $1300 for two tower speakers and a surround sound. Luckily I make $1300 in three days you scam artist, so while they're in jail, i'll be in cancun. The word is out to everyone I know in Ottawa so if any of my boys or anyone see these guys i'm gonna break a couple of speakers over his head. For the time being just spread the word and call the police. They are now in a dark red van, one guy is tall and has a tatoo on his upper right arm, claimed his name was "oliver" while the other guy went by the name of "john" who just wore sunglasses the whole time. Beware people!!! |

brokedownwilly Unregistered guest | I think everyone in the country has dealt with this so called scam by now. I bought two sets of towers, a center, and rear speakers all for about $350. Thats lots of speakers, enough for two rooms. Have had them for 2 years and still sound pretty good I had a set of bose surround speakers at the time. The real scam is what you buy at the speaker store. While these various named speakers are not worth what they claim, the are way better made and better sounding than the peice of sh%t bose I paid twice as much for at circuit city. I just bought another full set of surround sound 5.1 off ebay for 25 dollars. All mine are digital audio and I can't complain. For the price I paid I couldn't buy a speaker worth a sh%t at the store. All my buddies have lots of money and have spent thousands of dollars on speakers that sound no better than mine. It may be a scam but not as big as a scam as the stereo stores try to pull over on us everyday. |

Unregistered guest | hahaha this is so awsome, one of my freinds got a digital research system and a car subwoofer pair to sell from this one guy, except my freinds tryin to sell them out of his garage, the guy told him he would get commission and everything. he hasn't been able to sell them but it think i will offer him $100us for them!this is the best forum ever, everyone gets screwed, even me(willing). so how much do you think these things are really worth if all you people keep complainin about how its a scam? of course its a scam, but honostly who would be dumb enough to buy a noname brand they have never heard of (even for cheap) unless it looked like a really good deal, i don't think thats a scam, it's more like a good marketing stratagy from my biznez student's point of view. |

Sure they arn't high end, but they are fine for the money you would spend on them. I dont' know how many people can be so angry after buying these for 100-200 bucks then can be happy after buying a bose 5.1 system for 1000+ bucks. Now thats a much larger scam than these guys who sell there speakers out of a van. As for those tower speakers, how well made are the cabinents for them? |

Reinhart Unregistered guest | Here is the final point. White van speakers are junk, period. There are countless reviews and complaints confirming this fact from "satisfied" customers online. There are some webpages that also have links to examples and technical examinations of white van speakers. Despite what anyone says, I've had chances to seriously review these speakers and they are substandard, period. Other speaker technicians that I've consulted say the exact same thing about these speakers consistently. These things are worthless junk, and that's that. They do not have good frequency response and range. They do not have good efficiency. Some examples are known to have very bad impedence curves, which risks amplifiers. The parts quality are the lowest known to man. The level of engineering that's used is merely to get the speaker to make sound as opposed to doing that job properly. The primary fact is that these speakers are represented to the customer as high performance and very expensive audio equipment. This is supposed to push the buyer towards buying the speaker for the price that the seller suggests, which is less than the MSRP but still more than what the speaker is actually worth. Another valid point is that vastly better speakers from known brands sold by reputable stores can usually be purchased for **LESS** than what is typically paid to buy white van speakers, which makes the white van deal even more of a ripoff. Attempts to justify the sale of white van products or sidestep the issue are merely attempts to alter the focus of the debate and are irrelevant. The conclusion: White van speakers are junk that's hugely misrepresented to be more than what they actually are and should be completely avoided. The solution: Save your money and buy better speakers from a decent store, sometimes for less than what white van speakers sell for. - Reinhart |

I've called the police about it and they said the only thing I can do is try to pursue this in civil court, but only if I can get the liscense plate number of the green Astro van. Also, there was a maroon Astro, that sped through the parking lot while they were loading the stuff in my car. This leads me to believe that not only are they working as teams of two in the vans, but as teams of two vans, one being the look out for the cops. Hopefully, they'll get something from the security tape from the Petro station they sold the Digital Research 5.1 system at. If anyone else in the Sudbury area, or anyone else who has been hit by the green or maroon Astro, has a plate number, then a civil suit can be filed and at the very least we can get or money back by tracking down the warehouse they stock up at. |

He had a nice SUV and a great sales pitch, man am I stupid. I thought to take his plate number but I figured it was legit. The guy even shook my hand at the end and wished me a merry christmas. Well I guess I derserve it but my kids certainly don't. Now, I got home hooked them all up and they sound amazing. I currently have a new model kenwood and JVC systems and this system blows them away. He was raving about this home speaker system he scored from some guy. He told me that it's worth $1,999 but he only paid $150. I didn't even need to hear anymore - if it sounds to good to be true (excuse the pun because apparently these speakers are crap), then it almost always is. I immmediately knew it had to be a scam. I did. First guys almost hooked me, but the deal sounded to good to be true, I was in my work truck, a plain Ford pickup. Anyways they give me the pitch, I google the name of the speakers and found out they are ocmplete junk and as he is going to get more "sales info" I drive off.. Later in the day (I am a courier) I am AGAIN approached by two guys in a different van. Same scam. I play with him for a while, never agreeing to pay for anything. The guy starts loading speakers in the back of my truck. (I told them I had NO money) and was headed to the passangers side of my truck to I guess get in and run to the atm (I did admit I had a ATM card, never that I was going to USE it) I locked the door and drove off. 2 sets of the 2800 speakers and a 5.1 surround sound system. All worth just a bit more than I paid for them. They did follow for a while but I lost them at a red light. I am not sure if it is theift or not, I never agreed to pay for the items, or did I ask them to load them in my truck. And hey, he loaded them himself! (plus, his story is basically that he stole them) If they got my plate number they did not do anything with it as the cops would have called by now. My truck is registered to a PO box no where near my home so I am not worried. One white ford pickup looks like another. They are operating in the Minneapolis metro area. |

Anonymous | I understand these people have professional-looking invoices and glossy catalogs showing how much these speakers are "worth," but in the end, you're paying 300 (if you're lucky) for a total of 25 dollars worth of research and assembly. I was approached three times by these people in San Diego, all while driving in the city, and started getting increasingly aware of how effective they are at getting your money. I'm a member of the US Navy who just found out today a friend of mine got roped in by the Digital Research machine. He shelled out 300 bucks for two of the floorstanding speakers but hadn't connected them up yet. I started asking questions based on my experience and it turns out that you can move to the other side of the country, but crapbags like this are everywhere. Luckily, my friend logged down the license plate number and, while we may not be able to bring down the whole ring of these people, with the help of Navy Legal, we can catch at least one scumbag. |

I bought these crappy speakers from two 20-something yr old white guys in a light grey van. (Leaving the location anonymous). Same story, extra speakers, need money for the t*tty bar and beer money..etc. Got hustled, thought I had bought a great system for my pop's B-day. I trusted the guy and didn't think he'd do me dirty. I paid him over $400 for the speakers. Thought I got a great deal. HIS STUPIDITY-The guy gave me a legit cell phone number. I had went home and looked up these speakers and found information on the scam. Felt like the biggest a$$hole ever b/c i'm a saleman myself and can spot a phoney. I swore to God I would kill this guy if I saw him again. But i could tell he was greedy. Called the guy back and told him I was soooooo impressed with the speakers that my cousin wanted a pair too but only if he could get the same deal. I asked him to meet me at the same spot that he had sold me earlier. He agreed even though i didn't think he fell for it. God must have been on my side b/c this idiot actually showed up with the same smutty smile on his face. Little did he know i had my best friend with me (a registered glock 9 I bought while in the army) and was followed by two friends who were in a parked car about 50 feet away. Long story short-I deposited my money (and some) back into my bank account 45 minutes later and we were the one's with extra "beer" money that night. MORAL-I can respect these guys hustle. They are smart, canny, and GREAT salesmen, sh*t I wished they worked for me but that day they scammed the wrong guy. If they weren't greedy then they probably would be in alot less pain today and 400 dollars richer but Greed eventually got the best of them. I'm not condoning violence but if you find them again and ask for your money back and they say "no" then do whatever you feel necessary (and take alil extra if they got it). If u can get their numbers, get them. GET YOUR MOENY BACK, BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY! Screw calling the cops, they won't do shyt anyway. Well, my boys and I had a good amount of "beer money" last night and some sh*tty speakers on top of it. I got two systems for $300.00. I thought I had something good but apparently not. Oh well they serve my purpose and unless you've been had, you would never know they're crap. So I got shitty speakers for $150 bucks big fu ck in deal I can think of how many other times I just fu ck ed off $150.00 but I least I can take the second pair out now and not worry about them being hot. |
