HDMI--> DVI Conversion vs Component Video

We purchased a Sony LCD Projection TV HD-Monitor (KF-42WE610). We also purchased a Hughes DirectTV HD Receiver/Tivo (HR10-250). The Receiver/Tivo is HDMI while the TV is DVI. To make a long story short, there is a Compatability issue regarding using the HDMI-->DVI coversion cable. Nothing appeared on the screen on any of the video sources. There was also no sound, yes we did connect auxilliary audio cables (red and white) because the DVI does not carry audio. (Note: Both units use HDCP). After spending a great deal of time on the phone with Sony and Direct TV, the solution has been to use component cables. (Not what we were expecting!!!) We have also noticed that since making this change to HD receiver, the non-HD channels are now of a poorer quality thsn when we had the regular DirectTV Receiver/Tivo connected using S-Video....not to mention the HD quality is probably less than what it could be.

So here is the question, has anyone found a way to make this conversion work? Since we are in our 30 day return period from Circuit City, would it be worth the hassle (and a few hundred $$) to get the Sony KDF42WE655 which has the HDMI input? It is also CableCARD compatible. Since we are using Satellite and not cable, will this cause sny unforseeen issues,

Thank you,
A. Philipp
