My SB has several outputs: SPDIF digital, LF/RF, LR/RR, SW+Ctr. Among other inputs, the HT has 3 Aux inputs, optical digital in. No SPDIF.
On the PC side, I plug the 3.5mm jack into one of the connectors.
I have 3.5mm -> RCA adapter. Then I plug the RCA cable into the back of my HT's Aux input.
For the life of me, I can't get surround. While running speaker test in Control Panel, I hear only front speakers when I plug the 3.5mm into FL/FR. When I plug it into RL/RR, I hear only the rear speakers. When I plug into SW/Ctr, I hear only SW/Ctr.
I'm sure that the receiver can decode the surround signal from RCA correctly, because my satellite receiver is plugged into the HT via an RCA Aux, and I do get 5.1 surround sound.
Am I missing something stupid here? How do I accomplish getting the full 5.1 sound? What cabling do I need?
