Loss of Sound out of 1 speaker

Anonymous

I have 2 old 1970's receivers that I have tried to hook up to my speakers. Both speakers begin with sound, but after a few seconds one side fades away and dies out. It happens with both receivers and I tested both speakers independently and these sound fine. I have also swapped the speaker cable and it seems fine. The speakers read 7.9 ohms and 8.2 ohms.

Therefore, the speakers seem fine. The speaker cable seems fine and the receiver ports seem fine. The problem is hooking up the stereo, the speaker hooked up to right side losses sound. Please help... Thanks.

you probably have a bad electical part in the cross-over of the speaker that goes out.

if you take the speaker case apart you may be able
to actually see the bad part if not you can jumper
across a suspect part probably a capacitor until
you find the bad one then unsolder it and replace
it.

you might have to go to more than just radio shack
to get the cap if that is it because i don't think
(but could be wrong) that they carry bipolor caps.

Try PartsExpress if you need a new cap or a new part for it, they have a great selection and should have what you need.
