New member Username: DavidnrPost Number: 1 Registered: 12-2003 | I am new here and want to buy a new receiver and DVD/CD player. I have Klipsh KG4.3 front speakers which I have had for 12 years and I still like them, Klipsh center and rears. I have a Velodyne CT-80 (I think) sub-woofer. I am considering an NAD 763 or the Pioneer Elite VSX-55TXi for the receiver and the NAD T533 and Elite DV-45a DVD/CD players. Unfortunately, I am not able to listen to either as the dealer here in Sarasota doesn't stock either. I am looking for advice with my speakers. I will be using the receiver for both music and movies equally along with another zone (lanai). |
Anonymous | Listen to the Yamahas RVX2400 or 1400 as well. It has auto mic home theater set up similar to the Pioneer. For value, the Yamaha is hard to beat versus Pioneer's pricing. I considered both the Pioneer VSX-55TXi and the Yamaha and settled for the Yamaha as I couldn't justify the additional $$. But if you must have the firewire link, then current Yamahas don't have this feature. For DVD/CD, try the Phillips 963SA, it has wonderful pictures due to the 13bit video conversion chipset and Faroudja DCDi processing. The Pioneer DVD player has the advantage of DVD Audio but it is using only 10bit video processing. So if movies is your primary motive, get the Phillips. Nothing currently beats it other than the higher end Denons. |

I don't buy a lot of music anymore so SACD and DVD-A aren't real important to me right now. I would like to get some opinions based on the knowledge of my existing speakers. My rears are Klipsh Quintets. |
Anonymous | Since the SACD and DVD-A aren't important, then go for the Phillips. I checked up the Klipsch Quintets, they appear to be 90 db sensitivity and 8 ohm impedance. No problem with the Yamaha. |

Here you will find good prices on NAD: https://dmc-electronics.com/Default.htm NADs sound fuller and more musical - also good for music. As you can see in the reviews, upper model onkyo also got good writeup. This one won receiver of the year award in another magazine. http://www.ecost.com/ecost/shop/detail.asp?dpno=101502 |
New member Username: DavidnrPost Number: 3 Registered: 12-2003 | I ended up purchasing the Pioneer Elite. It seemed to have more bang for the buck as I got it for $950. I will probably get the Elite DV-47Ai instead of the DV-45AI. I would consider the Philips but I like the Firewire connection and my wife is adament about having only one or two remotes. Again, thanks for the advice. |
