What brands are left for home 12-15" bass reflex speakers that can handle 200-300 watts for SUSTAINED amounts of time?
I already blew out 3 pairs of KLH 9250B speakers, (I return the same pair to BestBuy each time they blow out). They are truly crap, but dirt cheap and there doesn't seem to be much brand selection left in any chain store I've visited. Years ago there were lots of choices and I'm trying to avoid expensive DJ/club brands like EAW.
I've seen other brands in stores but mostly small bass and for home theater use. I play LOUD dance, R&B music with lots of bass.
Is there new technology to replace bass reflex? Is this a dying breed of speaker? Should I listen to classical music??
have you considered Cerwin Vega or JBL? These are both efficient (>90db/w/wm) and have good power handling, but not sure of the cost.
Of course, you started with the term 'audiophiles'. Many audiophiles wouldn't know what to do with a 12" drive unit since few truly audiophile speakers use drive units bigger than 8".
