The obvious choice is the RCD-02 but i don't want to just part with my hard earn dosh just like that.... i listen to a lot of jazz recordings ranging from... Miles Davis, Diane Krull, Norah Jones, Pat Metheney, Acoustic Alchemey, Oscar Peterson, etc.... which of these CD players do you guys think can give the best preformance.... Being in Saudi Arabia here are the only choices... Rotel, Arcam, Harman Kardon, Yamaha, Roksan, Cambridge Audio... What do you think????/ |

I like these 2 better than the rest in your selection. If you want to broaden your choices, buy them used on www.audiogon.com and save money - sellers will ship them to you. What do you think of Saddams thing? |
Anonymous | Well I've heard it's a wee little thing! |
Tact Unregistered guest | I wouldn' go for Rotel. The combination of two Rotels could be too analitycal. I'd prefer Arcam or even the new Cambridge Audio Azur CD. But, try before you buy if you can! |
Anonymous | I am also looking for a new cd player.( I was also puting on my initial long list Arcam, Cambridge Audio 500se or Azur 640 or 540, Music Hall cd25, njoe tjoeb 4000, Rotel.) Has anyone heard or seen reviews of the new Cambridge Audio Azur or compared any of the above to each other??? |
Tact Unregistered guest | I've seen review of the Cambridge Audio Azur 640 in the last issue of Hi-Fi Choice. They've said it's an excellent CD, with plenty of refinement, a little bit weaker bass, but alredy extremely good player for the price. A whole story reminded me of Arcam, but at the fraction of the cost of Arcam! Same Wolfson chips inside? |
Tony Wood Unregistered guest | I've heard the Azur 640 cd and amp at Richers Sounds, Colchester. They sould superb for the money. If I had A£500 and a need for a cd and amp, that's what i'd go for!!! |
HiFiNut Unregistered guest | The Rotel combination looks pretty impressive according to this review and pretty much gives you the best price-to-performance gains: If you are not impressed with the RCD-02 maybe you should try the latest Rotel RCD-1072: http://www.theabsolutesound.com/newsletter/146/rotel_rcd1072.html Here's a comparison review of the Rotel, Arcam, Marantz and Rega (scroll to May 2003): http://www.theabsolutesound.com/newsletter/146/rotel_rcd1072.html Then I came upon this unpronounceable brand which is actually a modified Marantz (don't know which model): http://www.upscaleaudio.com/AH!/4000happening.htm http://www.upscaleaudio.com/AH!/4000pricing.htm http://www.upscaleaudio.com/AH!/4000review.htm http://www.audioenz.co.nz/2002/0306.html If you like a tube-like sound...you may want to check out the Jolida 100A: http://www.underwoodhifi.com/tntjd100.html http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/jolida/jd100.html Or, since you did not mention a budget limit you may just go all out with the Classe CDP-10 which B&W carries: http://www.soundstage.com/revequip/classe_cdp10.htm http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volume_10_2/classe-cdp-10-cd-player-6-2003.html http://www.stereophile.com/digitalsourcereviews/924/ Hope this helped more than it confused you...I'm still indecisive myself. |
