Are 3rd party warranties that are purchased from non-authorized dealers legit? I have decided that I will probably purchase a VSX-49TXi. The cheapest I've found online is $2500, which is $1500 cheaper than an authorized dealer's price! I simply can't find 1500 justifications to purchase from an authorized dealer, but I don't want to spend at $2500 on a receiver and not have some kind of legit warranty either.

Depends on the third party. You'd have to know specifics... duration, terms, conditions. You need to know they're reputable. Otherwise, the factory warranty is better. While some credit cards (Gold VISA/MC and Platinum VISA/MC) have "extended manufacturer" warranties on them, this may be negated since the manufacturer themselves are not honoring the warranty due to the 3rd party. Your mileage may vary. I just won't, personally, purchase that kinda gear (> $1,000.00) without the manufacturers warranty intact.
