will the p3preamp and hca1500 combo make my klipsch rf-7 speakers louder and clearer? as supposed to using the denon 5800 stand alone driving them? even though the denon is 170w/ch and the parasound is 205 w/ch i was told the parasound will blow away the denon. is this true. thanks

personally i love the looks of the parasounds.

but i've seen and heard first hand of quite a few
people having some issues with the halo stuff.
might want to check closely on that.

but i do agree seperates should do you better then a reciever.

if your looking in halo country for seperates you
may want to look at theta digital.

arcam av8 and corrasponding amp would be a place to look also.

b&k to me would be the next teer down.

then into my country the rotel 1068 prepro and
whatever amps you want.

just some food for thought.

Kegger. Why do the Halo, HCA-1500, and B & K stuff get no love?......is it bad?..or just mediocre? On paper, the HCA-1500 looks good. So does the B & K 200.2 Reference amp. Any thoughts?

i have ne beef with b&k and find their stuff very
well priced "recently" and very well made.

I looked into the parasound halo stuff when it first came out. absolutly goergous looking. some
of the best i've seen.

most of the negatives i've heard and seen have
been with the prepro and ground/humm issues. more
recently i was in a highend shop where a gentlemen
came in and said he just returned a parasound halo
combo because of many faulty issues and the sound was not good.

so if you are really interested in the halo stuff
i would make sure i get an in home trial period first.

I have to disagree that the Parasound or any seperates will sound ear piercing louder than a receiver. My experience has been that the cleaner the sound the less noticable difference in SPL's.
I tried almost every brand of receiver on the market before settling on seperates. Receivers tend to have more distortion, therefore more perceived volume.

I would prefer low end seperates to the best receiver. I now have Anthem and Sherborn and no longer search for better sound.

al normally i would agree with your above statement.

until you throw in the klipsch speakers. which are
highly effecient. then factor in they are the reference
series. those babies "the whole ref line" are from
96db to up over 100.

then factor in that most recievers don't put their
rated power at least not while your pushing all
the channels.
where the seperates generally tend to put out their
power then some.

so with the combo of better and more amplification.
along with "highly" effecient speakers.

i believe the statement cleaner and louder does fit hear!

Kegger,
I agree cleaner and louder will be achieved with seperates. I can not agree that the seperates will be ear piercing against a top notch receiver.

I previously owned a B&K 307 (150 watts) and now a Sherbourne (200 watts). The Sherbourne/Anthem is superior in all aspects except total loudness.
Remember that 50 watts only accounts for a few decibles in loudness. I used the Sherbourne with the 307 and achieved better sound but not a tremendous increase in volume.

I do own Klipsch RF35, RC7 and RS35's . I prefer the Klipsch but do not feel that they play much louder than my previous Paradigm Monitor 11's.

The advantage of highly efficient speakers is that they can play louder with less amplification. They still have a maximum SPL output that could possibley be achieved with a receiver or seperate.

Al Holland i agree you may be onto something their with.

"They still have a maximum SPL output that could possabley be achieved with a receiver"

if their not their though and the reciever does
not put out the rated power he should hear a difference.

but your right 50 watts is not going to make much of a difference.

the way he would get more spl is if the denon is
not pushing them with enough power.

peace bro!
