hello. I wasn't entirely sure where to post this..anyway
heres my setup: )Bose 5.1 theatre system. )PC sound card w/ conections(out) for SPDIF, Center, Rear, Front(SB audigy 2NX).
What I would like to have is my pc games in true 5.1, not stereo through 5 speakers. It is my understanding that spdif is only for signals that are already encoded into a bitstream that then just needs to be attached to a decoder that can recognise that bitstream, DD for ie.
Now I have my Dvds playing fine via spdif because the DD/dts tracks are pre-encoded and the soundcard simply sends it straight out as is, which is 5.1.
My problem is w/ games, I'm not sure how to output a 5.1 signal through its spdif.
I would love to plug the Center/Rear/Front speakers from Bose but as we know. all the speaker go through the Bose module.
I'm not expacting an answer to this issue per-say. Just a suggestion as to which direction to continue searching for this answer. Do I need to use a different sound card or a perhaps some additional audio hardware. *shrug* :/
